I have axle oil leaking out of the area where the main front axle bolts to the right wheel assembly case. According to the attached photo below it looks like the oil is leaking because the "o" ring must be bad (I'm surprise there is not a normal gasket that seals when the two components are bolted together).

1. Am I right the only seal to join the two components is solely the "o" ring?
2. Can a normally mechanically inclined person be able to replace this?
3. If I do tackle this job are there any do's and don't's or tips that I should be aware of?

I appreciate your help.

This is not a difficult job to replace the o-ring. The hardest part will be removing the tie rod from the outer drive so you can remove the drive. I would look very close at the other areas where the seal is. It's very unusual for the o-ring to leak.

Thanks for the response....the leak is at the bottom seam where the main front axle case is bolted to the wheel assembly case. I'm not sure what else it could be! The diagram doesn't show having a gasket to seal the two flanges together. So I assume it's only the "O" ring that seals when the two are joined together.
