We recently installed one of those Jackson power steering kits onto our L2500 without power steering. The pressure line for the orbital steering valve tees right into the output line on the hydraulic pump in front of the brake pedal, then there are two hoses for the hydraulic steering cylinder, and one return hose threaded into the oil fill cap behind the shifter.

We primarily use this tractor for moving around boats on trailers. We've been noticing the drawbar is having a hard time picking up the trailers since installing the kit. I've read the relief valve can be shimmed. Is this a viable solution to this problem.

Hydraulic oil was recently changed and the level is fine.

Putting a TEE in the pressure line may be the problem. From reading other posts about power steering there is usually a priority valve that determines the flow of the fluid. From what I understand “almost all” Kubota tractors use open center valves so the TEE will allow the pressure to dump through the unused valve (steering in your case) when trying to use a valve (three point valve in your case.

I think the flow should be along these lines:
Out of the pump
Into the power steering priority valve.
There should be two outlets on the priority valve-one will be a tank return that goes to the transmission sump (behind the gear shift). The other line will then connect to the line that goes to the rear of the tractor and feeds the rear three point hitch.

There may be a block on the tractor to tap into. If so use P to valve, PB will be from valve and the tank return could be hooked to the T port.

I just saw a diagram of a tractor block so will locate that and link it to this post

I would expect the Jackson PS kit comes with a priority flow divider that splits the pump supply into two independent flows. One goes to the PS controller and the other to the tractor hydraulics. Post a picture of this tee and where it hooks into the tractors pump please.

Roland knows his stuff and his kit should have no effect on the pressure goung to the 3pt lift. However its possible the PS curcuit is consuming most or even all of the pump output and the 3pt lift is sucking hind teat. I wIll check to see how much flow your pump produces while you get us the pictures.

Looks like your tractor came equipped with a priority flow divider for the optional factory PS. I am going to guess thats the tee you described. What did you get in the way of instructions with the kit?
