Kubota L175 valves

I am having trouble with a L175 I am working on. First, when I got the tractor all of the decompression linkage had been removed. It would start but run really bad. I put in both injectors new knowing that one was bad. Now when I try to start it it seems to have no compression. I can turn the decompression shaft in the valve cover and at a point it will seem to build some compression but not enough to start. I can remove the valve cover and it will start. It runs like crap ( I think it has a burnt valve) but it will run. It seems the valve cover is hitting the rocker arms and holding the valves open. Any hints as were to start looking? Thanks

While you’re waiting for intelligent replies, can you look inside the valve cover and see if there’s any signs of scratches or fresh indications that what you think might be happening is actually happening?

My first suspicion would not be the rocker cover. Its that somebody has FUBARed the decompress mechanism....

Replace the valve cover gasket.

There should be a mechanism in the valve cover that allows you to remove compression on the cylinders. I assume that is what is making it run worse with the valve cover on the engine.

There should be a lever at the front of the valve cover on the outside that rotates a shaft inside the valve cover. I think you say a portion of that is missing so I would see if you can get it into the proper position and then lock it in that position.

@007kubotaguy may have used parts that could restore it to normal.

And replacing the gasket may be all that is needed (as mentioned above). They are around 3/8 inches tall (spacer) when installed.
