Hello all! Hoping someone can help me out with a probably stupid question. I have a Kubota BX1880 and just recently bought a Kubota grass catcher. I didn’t love the idea of having to remove the whole 3 Point system on the back of the tractor because I use a hitch system to move around my trailers quite often. I have it all set up now to connect to the three point system but I had to buy a longer pto shaft. My question is does anyone know how to remove the universal joint on the bagger? I need to remove it to replace the one half of the yolk to connect to the extended shaft. I don’t see any kind of clip or anything holding the universal joint onto the bagger. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks everyone!

Have you looked at the parts diagram for that model of grass catcher? Have you looked inside the yoke shaft? Give model number please

I would try to push the yoke towards the bagger. I think that there is a circlip on the end of the shaft

Yeah, clip on the end of the shaft(yoke middle), set screw in yoke, or a bolt thru yoke and shaft.

Watching this thread with interest as I’m considering one for my 1880. Please post pictures when you have it all together and mounted. What mower deck do you have?

I believe it is the GCK60-23BX. I will take a look at the inside - if I recall it was mostly just full of old grease but it might have an Allen key bolt maybe. Thanks!

Here is a parts breakdown for your catcher.
Thank you, what would the purpose of the key, feather be? Could that be what’s holding this in? I did try to remove the four bolts of the surround, when you do that a larger cylinder shaft pulls out, but not all the way. Still can’t remove the universal joint but I may be getting closer.

I’ll be more than happy to take pictures once I get this resolved, I’ll show how I got it to fit on my 3 point in the back. I have the 54” belly mower deck.

From looking at the parts list…
remove the nut on the far side pulley, remove the pulley
then remove the 4 bolts holding the pto carrier
that whole assembly will come out

but the yoke looks like it is welded to the shaft that drives the pulley

on the input side of that assembly (mo to the left in your picture) there is a pin to push to remove it from the tractor’s output shaft so I don’t see any way to use a normal pto shaft.

what type of longer shaft are you trying to use? Please post a picture of what you want to use.

I have the same mower deck. What did the kit cost you?

The key is to keep the shaft from spinning in the pully.

Have you thought about a PTO extender? My brother had to get one for his Pasquali to convert it to a 6 spline PTO(what most everybody else has)((I did point out to him that it still spins backwards:ROFLMAO:) You might have to build a pillow block using the drawbar to stabilize it. Or find one that using set screws(I would not look at the bolt thru style(maybe tap the hole and install set screws). Hopefully others will add their thoughts/ideas.

Just one from Amazon - attached pictures below. If I have to, I can knock out the pins to break down the yolks - I’ve just never done it without putting it in a vice - so this will be interesting.

Thanks for the suggestion! I don’t think that would work due to the distance it needs to travel. Because I’m putting the bagger on the 3 point I need to go about a foot and a half longer.

I bought it from a guy on FB marketplace so I only paid $300. I think it was a really good deal. I do need to either buy or fabricate the clamps that hold the boot to my mower deck though, he didn’t have those or forgot to give them to me but that’s ok.

You could try using a ball joint press to replace them. I have used a ball joint press in the past for very rusty universal joints.
