I recently took my mower deck for the first time. Putting it back on I noticed the locking collar is stuck in the up position. I can get it to go down.
What do I need to fix this?

That's pretty weird. Jiggle it / lube it / tap it a bit? It should just spring back, so one of the ball bearings or something has hung up a bit or it's gotten sticky.

That’s the opposite of what happens to me (or used to when I had the mower deck) damn thing would not stay in the “open” position making it hard to connect the shaft when installing the deck. I think yours just needs a few taps with a hammer…or it’s gone bad.

Mine remains in the "unlocked" position until the collar is reattached to the spline shaft and it hits home and automatically locks in place.

maybe spray some WD in it. Or, bang it like others said. Mine was hard to keep open to couple it. Sure is a snug place to get to.

There is only one "A" in kUbota.
I fixed it for him!

I see soooo many ads on Facebook showing great pictures of a Kubota and then type in the info as Kabota........

I just kept messing with it. WD40 inside and outside of the ring. I noticed the ball bearing inside were sticking. I was able to release those and the cap finally came down and I was able to get it to lock on.

Glad you got it to work!
