I need help! Had the HST go out and replaced it with a factory new transmission $2400 plus a royal PITA!!! Took nearly two days and had a guy that worked on tractors and new what he was doing...or at least I had hoped. Anyway, both the mid and rear PTO worked prior to removing and replacing the HST. Nothing was ever taken out from the rear differential, etc. Now, neither PTO engage. Does not matter if the clutch is in and released as I have done hundreds of times before. No obstruction to the linkage, and it moves freely.

What am i missing here? HST went back in just like it came out with the only real issue I am having is the seal that powers the 4WD leaks and it is a new seal (after replacing the original seal off the old transmission as the $2400 does not include that one seal???).

Seriously, hoping nothing is snafu inside as I am 65 and not in any mood to totally disassembly the fenders, enclosure, etc to take the transmission out again!!!!

I'm going to tell you something your not going to want to hear, sounds like he left out the coupling from the HST pump output shaft to the PTO drives. :(

Sliding coupling inside the transmission came off while fiddling with the HST. Not uncommon. Gotta know what you're doing on these, or you get to take it apart a couple times.

2 days for an HST R&R is excessive, IMO. I've had them apart & back together twice in a day's time. They're a pain but not THAT much of a pain. Now he gets to do it once more.

The seal is not installed on the new hydro state as you have to install the bearing and snap rings on the front axle drive shaft with new hydro installed on transmission.

I agree the coupling is either out of place or missing from the rear of the hydro input shaft.

With the engine shut off, spin the PTO shaft by hand while shifting PTO lever to ON. You should feel it shift and will still be able to turn by hand. When properly assembled, you should not be able to turn the shaft by hand without turning engine also.

My tractor has enclosed cab, etc. Is it possible to take the ROPS off and remove the PTO assembly without having to take the HST out? He had the fenders off in lieu of taking the cab enclosure off and it was a real struggle getting everything lined up. I am too old to attempt it by myself and dealer will not quote a price since they did not install the HST and stated it may be more than the "normal" price if the installer did not know what he was doing. The transmission and 4WD work, just not the PTO!!!

BTW - Lugbolt, I wished you lived closer because I would love to see someone do this in a day (in and out). Not saying you can or cannot, just know we could not.
