On my Dad's B8200, when I operated the Right Rear Brake Pedal, there was a loud chatter or grating sound. I cleaned it up and removed the cover plate from the brake drum housing which is located just forward of the real wheel shaft. The brake shoes come off with the cover, exposing the drum and housing. Pretty obvious the problem is leakang of the tractor fluid out of the gear box. Removal of a snap ring and the brake drum slides right off the splined shaft and you're looking right at the shaft and seal. I removed the wheel now to make it easier to work on.
A really solid looking lip seal with a small flange. Of course I need to get it out of there and I am wondering if anyone has a trick up their sleeve for how to do this. I was hoping to get a thin chisel under the flange to help it get started. Also, I do have a slide puller and I may have to drill or die grind a hole in the metal part of the seal so I can use a slide hammer puller. Any other ideas will be appreciated. I have to make sure I don't damage the shaft or the housing at the seal area.
I am hoping to clean the brake drum and the brake pads with brakekleen in hopes that it will be good enough. After that if it is still bad I can replace the pads easy enough.
Thanks,
Barry
