I have a 7100 with the old dynamo having 3 wires coming off it and going to the rectifier. I purchased a new dynamo and it only has 2 wires. does anyone know if it is possible to hook this new dynamo up to the old wiring?

I have the schematic for the 2 wire dynamo in my service book. I don't have a working scanner here at home. I will try to remember to bring the book to school with me on monday and scan the page. My guess is that you will need a different rectifier/regulator. My 2 wire dynamo schematic calls it a regulator, my 3 wire dynamo schematic calls it a rectifier.

what I have been able to figure out is that the 2 wire is a permanant mount stator and charges with ac voltage. The 3 wire charges the battery off of one leg and the other leg goes to the light switch so they have their own source of power and not pull directly off the battery. ????????? I think that is what I have read..... I don't really need lights so I may try and hook the one wire to the rectifier from the dynamo and trace the other wire that comes off the light switch that goes to the rectifier and disconnect it and tie in the other dynamo wire.... Obviously there is one wire on the 3 wire that is a common and the other 2 hot...

On the 3 wire dynamo system 2 of the wires (white & Yellow) go to the light switch. Also a red wire from the rectifier goes to the light switch. These act as a hi / lo charge switch that controlls the output from the dynamo. More current when the lights are on, less current when the lights are off. The light switch is actually 2 switches in one. There is no electrical connection from the charge rate part of the switch to the on/off light part of the switch. It should be easy enough to change the wiring on your tractor to the 2 wire dynamo layout. What I do not know is if the rectifier is the same or if you would need to change that also.
