I'm in my 70s and been a dirt bike rider all my life so when I finally got a quad (still have a dirt bike!) it was tough getting used to the thumb throttle. Then that darn thumb throttle got me in a wreck! I was up high on the side of a mountain, trying to turn around at the end of a dead-end road. Backing up and looking over my shoulder, I didn't notice that some brush had gotten caught under the right rear corner of the quad. The brush came loose - whipped up and slapped my thumb and the thumb throttle hard, sending the quad hurtling backwards into the bank (it was in 4x4) and rolling it. Went right over the top of me before I had a chance to react. Luckily I was not hurt, only shaken up.

When I got home the first thing I did was go on line and order a Motion Pro twist throttle conversion kit. Got rid of the thumb throttle altogether. That was 12 years ago and I've never regretted converting to the twist throttle.
