A good principle to follow is, "fix known problems first".

If you are sure the solenoid valve is kaput, replace it.

Then see if it starts. If not, you can move on to finding and fixing the next problem.

Ok thanks didnt want to waste another one. 160. I found there is no power with key on at the plug for the solenoid. also found rats nest under radiator but checked wiring and no chew marks. i thought maybe they shorted it out. still looking

No understanding "waste another one" if the solenoid is bad then it needs to be replaced.

Nothing external is going to blow a new one, it's quite the opposite.
How many wires go to the solenoid?
There will be a large fuse that powers the solenoid or powers a relay that powers the solenoid.

oh ok. ya first thing I found was blown 30a fuse for the solenoid. there are four wires at the solenoid and three at plug end with something in middle. Maybe thats the relay?

The part on the cable is a cap and diode buffer, the relay will be on the relay bank on the EX.
There is possibly another fuse that controls the relay.
That is a run Solenoid so it get 2 power signals, one signal when it cranks to pull the plunger in and one signal that will hold the plunger in.

Check the RED kill button on the lower left side of the operators' console, it should be pushed in.
The relay for your fuel shut-off solenoid is behind the RH side skirt.

There is a technical service bulletin for this issue. Make sure your new solenoid has the white paint mark on it or it will probably fail.

TSB-2023-049-E-R3 - K, KX, SCL, U-Series; Engine Stop Solenoid Failure
Bulletin Type
Fix as Fail extension
Description
Repairs described in this bulletin may be made only in the event of a failure.

Product Line
K, KX, SCL, U-Series
Subject

Solution
If the installed engine stop solenoid fails, replace it with the improved engine stop solenoid below per the procedure on page 3 of the attached TSB.

Note: Incorrect installation or damage to the plunger rod of the new stop solenoid will prevent the engine from shutting down. Remove and inspect the new stop solenoid if this occurs, then carefully reinstall.

Warranty
This bulletin applies in the event of a failure and does not constitute warranty authorization to update units without a defect in material or workmanship.
