Ouch, good rebuild and your good to go.
Just be happy it wasn't an emissions unit, one of those would run you 10K plus to fix one of those in the event of a roll / tip over.
Oh lord at that point I would cut my losses and use it as a parts donor for the other 2 I have in this size. It’s a shame because I just welded a hydraulic jaw on this one. Ran new plumbing made the AUX pedal 2 way vs factory 1 way to open and close etc etc and I never really had the opportunity to play with it lol. Like you said a good rebuild and she’ll be back up and running. I’ll be sure to post the update when she’s back to knocking down walls!

I am surprised that these machines don't have a safety cut-off switch that will shut down the engine when they approach an angle that the machine will no doubt go over.
We have a few machines that I have installed ARP systems in like the Bobcat E45 excavator or the KX018. Through lights and audible alarms it will alert the operator if you are approaching an unsafe operating angle. If you pass a certain threshold it will cut power to the machine. Due to the size of the 008-3 we opted not to install in those. However now I think we will be putting them in everything lol

True, but many of these machines don’t have shut-offs for low oil, overheating or many more common maladies.

Maybe his excavator does for those I mentioned, just know some don’t.

Don’t disagree in ideal world, but more sensors = more production $$, and more issues when they malfunction.

Sad that common sense is lacking, and due diligence of owners (or operators in this case) is non-existent.
Truer words have never been spoken. Also on this machine with no digital display every major system has just a little red light with an icon to alert operators to a problem. Engine coolant over temp triggers that little light and that is it same with hydraulic temp. No auto off no alarm just a pretty thin wire to the sensor that triggers a light. The location of the light is also prone to being dirty and sometimes you can’t even see the icons anymore. I get in the grand scheme of equipment these are very low on the price scale and come with bare minimum options but I really do think Kubota should have implemented a few basic features like an auto shut off system to prevent engine damage etc etc. what seems like pretty standard options these days isn’t really standard anymore unfortunately.

you can cut the fuel off but the engine will continue to run if there is oil ingested into the intake. And diesels will run on their own lube oil. The CCV system does just that. Used to be that a road draft tube ran down the side of the engine from the valve cover to evacuate vapors from the crankcase. If you rolled one of those, oil would dump out of the road draft tube. Now, with CCV, the vapors are supposed to be recirculated back into the engine where they're burnt during combustion. The downside is the vent also acts as a duct for liquid engine oil in the unfortunate event of a rollover and then the engine will not turn off until it either (1) self destructs (2) runs out of oil or (3) has it's air supply cut off. Again, the many mandates set forth, this one being CCV, costs us all. The CCV really needs to be reworked so that it cannot let liquid oil pass, but that also brings on another set of complexities. I think some of the common rail engines have such a system but I may be wrong.

If you really like this one, maybe turn one of the other ones into a parts machine, and put an engine in this one .
