So there I was yesterday doing some "trail cutting" .

The trail is more or less for my grandkids to have a little "track" to ride around on.

My basic plan of attack is to cut a path as wide as the "total swing" on on BH77m (so about 15 feet)

So basically I go in first "ass first" with the backhoe and tear it up path, then do a 27 point turn and then use the grapple to grab the "spoilings" and place them off to the side.

Well let me tell you mister, I have been doing some real "4 wheeling" with the General Lee.

Now the problem.

yesterday, at some point, a branch must have "grabbed" the hose and it snapped off the "top" of the outrigger (port side)

So I go to lower it and get a nice little "douch'ing" of "red SUDT 2" down my leg.

So after a cussing session the whole ride back,

Here she is after removal.

So this morning, I call the dealer and he explains that they don't carry many "Kubota" hoses. Instead they make them in house, and tells me to bring it up and he will make a new one.

Cool.

I go up there, takes it into the back room an then comes out and says he doesn't have any 90 degree, 1/4 in hose fittings and asks if i would be OK with 3/8?

I "himmed and hawed" for a second and said, well it should be ok, besides I just want to get back to trail cutting.

So 50 bucks later I am headed for home with my 3/8 replacement.

Install is a little more difficult due to the "stiffness" difference, but I get her on and she tests out fine.(no pic, in a hurry)

I get out to the trail and as soon as I try to lift the outrigger the first time BAM.....

Yep you guessed it!!!!!!!! The other Mot$%%#$^G hose pops and sprays me down with "red Sudt2"

Then I must have used the Lords name in vain, (which I am actively trying not to do anymore) so he opens up the heavens and pisses rain down on me in a downpour that was last witnessed by Noah.

AGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

Now the SOB'ing outrigger won't go up and I don't want to damage it by hitting a tree or something, so in the pouring rain, I grab the chain I was using as a "choker" and give Stonewall a splint, and limp him home.

I think I actually have derived some new curse words on this ride home.

That sucks. Yeah, use the lords name in vain and fear his wrath. Could have been worst. Stray dog could have walked up to you and pee yellow on your leg. Haha

So now for the $30,000 question.

Did I damage the other hose when I damaged the first one, and it just happend to let go as soon as I actuated it out in the field? (btw both of them snapped in basically the same place)

Or did replacing the original with a "stiffer" 3/8 hose put "undo" stress on that 1/4 inch line and break it?(they are both running through the same "black cloth/fiber sleeve)

Either way, I decided to order both of them so they are "factory" again.

When it rains, it pours. Bummer on the lines. My guess is you coincidentally f’ed up both lines with the boom bash mangling routine. Wounded tractor bled red. At least you got some good story visuals out of the UDT dye. But I think it’s supposed to stay in the lines.

I’d go with OEM lines and a few zip ties (as suggested) and be a little more gentle with the trail breaking.

Things have changed. Either ya'll are driving your tractors like tanks or bulldozers, or the quality or quality-control of new Kubotas has gone to shit.

Back in tha' day, we'd blow a hyd line once every few hundred years. Now, you guys smoke 'em out like cigarettes.

Dang shame AeroQuip or Parker doesn’t use JIC threaded fittings. (but an adaptor might work)

I use a local hydraulic shop to make up hoses when a hose goes bad. They use all Parker products, and the quality of the rubber hose exceeds the quality of the hoses that are OEM on the tractor. If you are tearing the hoses off the cylinders, then you need to change your ways of using the tractor and keep the branches away from the cylinders. Maybe you should look into renting a small excavator to do the work that you are attempting to do with your backhoe. An excavator will be better suited for the job. Home Depot used to rent the Kubota units and they have replaced them with Bobcat units. My guess is that the Kubota excavators didn't stand up well to rental abuse and they are hoping that the Bobcat units are more stout.

Nope, probably just got a lessor cost from Bobcat, so they can put more money in their pocket!

Hose protection covers and heavy nylon ties might help. Supports the line. Trees fight back.

Stabilizer rod covers give some hydraulic hose protection.

There is no question sir that this was my fault and not a "Kubota Quality" issue. (y)

I was simply using it too aggressively. Anything can be broken if not used properly and I realize that.

Just like when I knocked off my fuel filter, I am already formulating a plan for some bolt on covers, so I don't have to change my wicked ways.....Thats what they make welders for...hahahahah

(Although that damn fuel filter was pretty easy to knock off.....just sayin ;))

I agree....kinda.....There is no question that I screwed the pooch on this, but in all honesty, I think I can fab up something so that this is prevented in the future and thus keep working with it the way I am accustomed too.

Stay tuned.......

You’re a glutton for punishment… make some hard lines that attach to cylinders that go to a bulk head that can be protected.

When you are working in crowded woods hoses get snagged and fittings break. That's why I keep spares.
