You'll find a lot of wealth of knowledge on the model here - it might be the top model (maybe behind the BX2x series)
It is a bullet proof machine - for a compact tractor it will pull it's weight around like no other!
It does have a few potential bug-a-boos when you do not know what to look for .......
it has no water pump, so you have to keep the cooling system clean as a whistle
it does not have an alternator .....it has a dyno - and it can be a PITA to replace or repair, but it really is not that bad....once you BTDT!
What type tranny you have ? Geared? HST? 4wd or 2?
What questions do you have - and no, there are never stupid questions.....especially if you do NOT know the answer!

I have a 1977, B7100, 4wd, gear tractor. It is a beast for it's size. You will be very impressed with it. It is the little tractor that thinks it can....and most of the time it can.

Hey, thanks for the welcome in comments. My 7100 is a geared 4wd. I have already been pleased with it's "want to". The tractor came with a Woods 48" finish mower and the three-way hydraulic front blade.
I can see the need for weights at least on the rears. I think weights on the fronts may make steering too difficult. The future almost definitely holds a box blade and a 4' bush hog for the tractor. I'll be getting a "heavy hitch" or similar soon to handle a trailer and to get a draw bar.
I obviously need to check the cooling system if that is a potential problem.

I beg your pardon? That's a new one on me.
A four speed PTO. My label is worn out so I'm not certain of which speed is which. When i went on KUBOTA manuals the description is of speeds 540, 750, 1000 (I think), and 2000 (I think). The PO told me to pull the handle back one notch for 540 for a bush hog, etc. Push forward one notch for 750 for the Woods mower. The other two are a complete mystery. I know I would have to move the guard at my left foot to get the other two speeds available. Not that I want them, just wondering why they are available.

I think the other speeds are for other countries where designs are different

540 is the old standard on ag equipment
750 is unknown to me
1000 is common on newer ag equipment
2000 is a garden tractor thing not seen any more

You have 3 speeds on the rear PTO not 4.
You should not use the 750 or 1000.
unless the woods mower is an odd model the input should be 540.
540 Is the universal standard, that was adopted around the time the B7100 where out.
The other speeds were based on older equipment that was still in use and available at the time the b7100 came out.

Thanks to all. My experience has only involved 540 rpm so the others were a mystery. I wish there was a tach to let me know what engine rpm got me to 540 PTO rpm.
It was my understanding the higher rpms were used for things like water pumps and generators. Mowers were intended to run at 540. Yet mine cuts better at slightly higher speed. 600 maybe. Guessing at rpms isnt easy,2/3 throttle would be my guess for a starting point.
