Is it just me or has anyone else been inundated with junk mail as of late,, I am trying to block and mark as phishing maybe 120 or more a day, and still they keep coming. How do I stop it?

Don't hand out your email to every store and website that asks for it, to start. Skip the "rewards club" unless it really, really offers you benefits you'll use. Those two things will account for 99% of the junk you get.

Nope.

Everything‘s fine over here.

Thanks for asking.

Porn sites are notorious for viruses and spam.

If you click so much as ONE url on one message you can get a load of the stuff and not even know why. I inadvertently did just that on a recent email and the flood began. I use a PC compatible and Mozilla Thunderbird (free) as my mail handler. It is capable of learning what is spam and can help stem the flow.

I use Thunderbird too, and it does a pretty good job weeding out the spam, only a couple show up in my inbox a day, out of the 50 to 75 that it sends to the trash folder. I'm seriously considering changing my email address, although I've had the same one for as long as I've had internet service. That would be a pain, but should help stem the flow of spam for a while.

The loophole in the spam laws it that unsolicited emails must have an unsubscribe link in the emails. That's fine, but if you read the fine print on some of them, it says it could take a week to be removed from the list. What they do then is keep sending you spam from another address for the same crap and you have to start over again.
We need to have laws to prohibit the sending of unsolicited email, but too many politicians get too much money from the spam lobbyists.
They claim that spam comprises 90% of internet traffic.

The most appropriate thing to do would be to send them back emails that have a virus that wipes all their address databases.

I wrote my congressmen and the president an e-mail letter. Within a month, my e-mails increased by 600% or more. Don't know if the government sells that data or if they have bots that get those addresses somehow. I know it's a great fund-raising tool and the parties share e-mails to all members. I was getting 150-200 e-mails a day. Finally got Earthlink Spamblocker on it and we have dropped that to 6-10 a day.

The tech at Earthlink told me South America is generating about half the spam online. Fully 3/4 of my spam was coming from there.

hmm.. I don't get any fron PA, sniff, sniif. Guess I better sign up. I'm down there so often......:) I did get them to enable me to download and view flyers online, permanently though.

As for junk emails, ther's only 2 ways to stop them... Smith and Wesson.;)

I use Thunderbird as well ( Firefox for net) and wish they had a 'delete on server BEFORE downloading option'. Previous email ap ( Netscape ?) had that so NO spam ever came into PC !

If you're totally fed up change email 'slightly', myemail@here.com -- my1email@here.com

3rd party companies sell off email lists. It costs nothing to send so they inundate everyone. I have a couple of email accounts. My primary, that only actual people I communicate with get. A second that is used for businesses I 'might' want to hear from then a third which is used for distribution to people I never want to hear from. I never open the third email account, it is my 'dumpster'.

A majority of "spam mail" (snail and E) comes through a company that I interviewed with a couple weeks ago. Doesn't come "from" them, but they harvest the information, then sell it.

I get about a dozen phone calls a night from scam artists on the land line. I don't answer them but I hate not answering them because some of them scammers have got smart in using local numbers to display on caller id. When that happens you don't know if it's a legitimate business call or scam (usually "your car's warranty is about to expire...". I just let it go to voice mail, the recorded message is "leave a message if you expect a return call". Customers always leave messages; scammers NEVER do. State's AG office is working HARD to find a solution for it.

We have a land line and I have been thinking about getting one of these. Sentry Call Blocker 3.1, Most Effective Spoof Call Blocker, Blocks 100% . Saw it on Amazon for $79.

Someone calls your number, they get instructions to dial "0", then wait for the call to go through. Or they can hang up and call back after dialing the "0". From that call on they are not screened, they're on the "white list". All other call are on the "black list". The robo calls will not/can't dial the "0" so they are terminated, and you don't even hear your phone ring.

I keep getting calls telling me my apple has been compromised, and need to talk to them. They called the other night every 20-25 minutes for 6-7 times.

We have been getting spam calls from our own number.
Everyone says they can't be stopped. I call Infinite BS.
We put men on the moon in the '60s using computers with 1/4 the power of the average smart phone.
They won't stop it because there is money involved.
I wish they'd all die slow, painful deaths.

You'd only have to publicly execute a half dozen or so before those calls would cease. And I'm not talking about the drones in the boiler rooms, I'm talking about the scum that are making money off the calls and scams.

Answering machines (on landlines) work wonders. Telemarketers don't talk to an answering machine.

I have not rarely get spam mail in my primary email acct.

I have 2 email accounts, one I keep very private and the other I use when suspect I'll be getting junk mail from someone. The non private I'll visit once in a while and just delete everything don't even read any of them.

Works great for me.
