Don't want to open another can of worms about someone re-shaping their world with a blobbed together japan robot, but another thread about moderation got me to thinking about the old days when I was a moderator.

We had a member who had far more posts than anyone else on the forum, on the order of 5 times as many as the next closest member.
He regularly bragged that he was the biggest contributor on the forum, when in reality, he contributed virtually nothing.
After anyone else's posts, he would post "Cool!", "Wow!", "Neat!", "Nice!", "Yeah!", "Awesome!", etc, etc, etc, endlessly.
Picture how your post count would go up if you did that after every post on this forum.

I finally met the guy at a Rhino Crash, and as near as I could tell, the guy had little to nothing going on or going right in his life.
I think his ego required that he be the best or the top at something, and post count was all he could manage.
He was a nice enough guy if you could get past his braggadocio, but it was kinda sad too.

I wonder if a certain guy had some of the same tendencies?

I think you see many people - well, rather a few that only post in one section or two - one being the daily chuckle!! And their post count if you could separate joke telling from tractor helping would be 95-5%

I think it's a bit of a different situation than @Lil Foot is describing, and to answer a previous question:
Dang, what am I going to do for all that priceless information on a new way to make repairs.
He even bailed from Youtube. In fact there's no trace of him if you do an internet search.
He got caught, he's likely trying to minimize the evidence so that he's able to deny deny deny and keep pulling the same scam for as long as he can benefit from it, which is why I posted his pictures and some relevant text here, otherwise after he changed his content "there'd be no proof."

He has a pattern of frequenting trusting communities that would likely not guess he has several ulterior motives, maybe the staff here could share the situation with the other sites' administration in so they're less at risk.

The issue is he's fundamentally dishonest: in his case most everything he says uses a grain of truth to make his story seem believable, but there's always deception involved and if not it's to build up a bigger lie. Everything forwards a bigger goal, which is why he's busy rewriting his narrative and removing anything that might shed light on the truth. To him what's important is people trust him, because the thing he's lacking most is integrity.

OTT members by-and-large have integrity, and if he were honest and simply wanted to be entertaining like Red Green there would be no issue. When there's a weed in the garden we call it a weed, and at some point it may be best to pull it. Unfortunately Joe is that weed, and management decided to pull it.

I would love to learn more about what the hell you are talking about. I guess I am naive about such things. I come to this site to learn and be entertained to a certain level. If somebody could clue me in that would be great…cause I am guessing there is something to learn here. Thanks.

N.Y,
All I'm going to say is. If he listened to and used some of the knowledge presented by members, he would have a good running reliable tractor. He was not here for help.

It got shut down because he edited and removed content that made that and other threads non cohesive.

When any member goes back in later on and removes contact and deletes content it ruins a tread.

FYI: I didn't ban him, I just closed the thread.

I believe that after 24 or 48 hours a post shouldn't be allowed to be edited. This eliminates people changing the narrative. The software will allow this to happen, and after 15 minutes it will note that the post has been edited.
Our edit note pops up when someone other than the OP reads the post then the op edits it.
We have no control over someone that deleted their YT account or content.

Please leave the editing function, at least for a day or two. I often detect typos or find better wording at a later stage. I would not change meaning or content though.

I was not aware that this is creating work for the moderators, sorry, so I will try to improve on the quality of the post to avoid editing.

No you have not created work for us.
And I agree I often find out the next day of a typo and change it.

Ok, it seemed like about 3 pages before the end people were questioning Joe profiting off of the thread somehow, him leading people to his youtube for clicks so he can profit from it. He gets rid of his youtube so he can’t get blamed for “profiting” off of it and that gets the thread shut down. I think shutting it down was a bit heavy handed but I’m not boss. Carry on. I’ll have to find my entertainment elsewhere I suppose..it was an interesting ride to see how some can get by with so little and the trial and error was educational. It did have a lot of tractor repair and maintenance in the thread, more so than others. Granted the quality as we know was questionable at best. But that was part of the process.

I'll give Joe credit for one thing and that he appeared to be a busy person, or he had a large collection of deeds on the many sites his was on. I went back and he couldn't have done all the things he posted on the various sites he was on in one day.
Just my humble opinion.

N.Y,
You make no money when youtube videos are embedded in a post. Only see income when people watch on YouTube with commercials and analytics. In a case like Joe's he probably was trying to build subscribers.
This was no longer entertainment and just a disaster due to him not listening to input. Why would a site like OTT actually want to let that post go on and show up in searches for information on rebuilding Kubota tractors to people actually searching for the right direction to go in. I think stopping it was the right move.
From what I get, he is still a member and can participate in the discussions when he is looking for information and guidance. That thread was the equivalent of fake news to me.

Me too.
I sometimes go back to an old thread to grab a photo or a paragraph for a new thread, and find I had a typo or a brain fart and used the wrong (but similar sounding) word, so I edit the old post.
Sorry if it makes work, as you guys have enough to do.

here me out.

(MOD deleted thread content)
(Read my next post on this.)
Joe,

Not sure you're helping your cause by responding to your critics in this way.

Personally I would advise you to post on-point threads in a coherent manner. Sticking to the original thread topic. IE , your thread on fixing a hole in the block devolved into welding(I say that tongue in cheek) , hydraulic cylinder repair, improper use of RTV and "glue" etc.

If your serious about (which seems to be in doubt) being a contributing member of OTT you would be better served to think about honest content rather than number of view, posts and clicks on a particular thread.

In short, I like many, enjoyed your posts for many reasons and think you might still have something worthwhile to contribute. I do know many here will not follow along again and that you have an uphill battle as far as being that respected OTT member.
