I just acquired a second set of Jacobsen ground driven reel mowers, my first set I bought from a golf coarse about 15 years ago and they had sat unused rusting for years before I got them,
but I still used them for 10 years though worn out I got by, when we moved 3 years back I scraped them and bought a 60"3 point mower that works ok but I have still missed the cut and the fuel savings of the reels, so after 3 years of looking on Craigslist I found a 5 reel set for $100
this set is in way better shape, blades and bed knives are much better but all the seals are bad so I'm rebuilding 3 of them with new seals, gaskets.
I have the parts and a manual but I have been looking someone that has worked on them before because some questions

thanks
John

I've rebuilt several hundred of them over the years and have at least 30 a year come through the shop just for grinding alone. What's your question?

great, it looks like the gear case lube was wrong or not kept up, so the gears have some wear, I was thinking if I swap all the gears from side to side so they will wear on what is now the back side of the gear that has no wear on the gear teeth, maybe its no big deal I just want them to last and work well,

thanks

Switching from side to side might buy you some time. The gear cases should have 00 semi fluid gear case oil. The reels you have should be either blitzer or fairway and the best price on parts is here.

yes I have the 00 grease and the parts from R&R I had sent an email last week to Jacobsen and they responded today with a copy of the service manual and it states to swap the gear set from side to side,

so im good to go just need some time to get them done,

thanks
