It is tick season.

I am already seeing ticks coming to life in Northeast CT. Unfortunately, we are at the epicenter of Lyme ticks. I did learn something today while watching a news brief about ticks in Canada, the tick needs to be on you for 24 hours before it can complete the transmission of the disease.

Man I hate those things.

I try to keep up with spraying my "outside clothes" with Permethrin.

I also "blouse" my pants when I'm going in the thicker stuff.

Permethrin works great as a tick and mosquito repellent. Not recommended, but I spray 5% mixture directly onto my skin. So far, it hasn't affected me affected me affected me.

We visit my wife's uncle in Indiana every couple-3 years.
Until recently he owned a piece of hunting property in the UP.
The first time we went there, he stopped at the last intersection before his place, and explained that he would drive to the end of the road & turn in his driveway, about a 1/2 mile down.
We were to park my 5th wheel on a road 100yds short of his driveway.
As I looked down the road, I thought "Someone has a really big, smoky fire going down there."

It wasn't smoke, it was mosquitoes.
And the ticks were just as bad.
Even with bug spray on, it only took 20 seconds or so the feel the ticks crawling up your legs.
Between the excessive heat, humidity, ticks, and mosquitoes, it was a horrible experience, one I'm glad I won't have to repeat.

I use Permethrin 10% and reduce it 1 oz Permethrin with 20 oz water to make 0.5%.
One premixed 0.5% 24oz Sawyer's to spray clothing with cost more than buying 16oz of concentrate that can make 2 1/2 gallons when you mix it yourself.
Various brands, concentrations, and bottle sizes are available from any farm supply, Walmart, Amazon, etc.

Picked up a bottle at Wally's today to have in the new shed. Also available in aerosol. I like to refill at 0.5%. Don't waste your time and money on deet, they ignore it.

I've used permethrin for years. Use a cheap spray bottle and spray my outdoor clothes. It just plain works.

I have sprayed my skin with a few drops in a 12 oz bottle solution. I stopped doing that due to my wife smelling it all the time. I smoke on occasion so I can't really smell it. But it took away a skin rash I had! Seriously. But I don't recommend it.

Permethrin is also a good insecticide to control those pesky wood boring bees. Used it with grease success last year. It's not toxic to mammals onve dried.

Well I guess I was a little late to the party, last year I noticed a round bulls eye mark on my arm,, went to the Doc blood work,,, yep Lyme's disease ,, but Doc said I already had antibodies in my blood work meaning I had been bitten some time before. And the side effects are many, and not good! It settles in your joints , lungs and all kinds of nasty stuff. So if you are out and about and dont bug dope up, have your wife, girl friend, or a significant other ,check you all over for tics. No tics at least you ,,, you might get lucky,,, just sayin

I get mine in bulk from Do My Own Pest Control. Www.domyown.com. Was buying by the case since it tends to get pricey. A quart of 36.8% is $42.98 and a gallon is 109.00. Good stuff. I usually do a couple spray downs around the house and the tree line mixing up 25gal batches. It helps but the tick tubes are better since it targets the rodents and the ticks feeding off them.
