Is a $400 fair price for this pin on forklift attachment?

I think I'd pass on it. If your machine has ssqa (assuming you're using it on loader, not three point), you'd need to add that bracket to the forks. Additionally, it doesn't like like there is a whole lot of fork width adjustment on that unit.

Hard to say what shape or capacity they are from one pic, but I bet the steel alone to make your own would be $200 these days. I wouldn't say $400 is a killer deal, but doesn't sound unfair for what is pictured.

If you have use for them, forks can be real handy. Especially if they are SSQA, due to the speed of popping them on and off. Compared to fork extension on a bucket, a dedicated fork attachment has higher lift capacity and stability due to keeping the load closer to the arms.

I have a B2620 w/o ssqa, there is not much adjustment but I think I could modify that, thanks for the input.

Something to consider!
A new set of forks will likely cost $800.

I keep searching for used ssqa folks in my region with no joy. They are occasionally out there but listed so close to new cost ($$) that it is not even worth a call.:(

If it weighs too much you won't be able to pick up much!
This is why they make light weight SSQA forks.

If you have a welder (or a friend with a welder) and a bit of creativity you can make your own lightweight SSQA forks quite inexpensively. Tow motor forks are solid steel, and very heavy. These are 42" long, based on hollow 2" x 4" box tube, can handle 1,000 lb loads, are fully adjustable and I can lift them off the ground by myself:

Materials were something like CDN$200. Took less than a day to lay it all out and fabricate. I use them frequently, probably my second most used attachment after the bucket itself.
