I have never seen stainless rot away like that. See if a magnet sticks to it, some grades of stainless will not attract a magnet.

Diesel won't rot SS, but a mixture of trichloroethylene and water will eat holes in 304 SS.

man, the shine just threw me. I though surely it can’t be stainless but I had to post it up. I figured there was no way Kubota would put a stainless tank on.

That is religious metal, or as it is better known by the name of Holy Steel.

you can polish mild steel and it looks just like that. But it still rusts, just like that one did.

You can buy 2 part epoxy repair kits that will fix that right up.

Thanks for the offer! But, I finally got to break out the TIG welder and play with it! Pressure tested and I am good to go!

Stainless steel IS metal. So are copper, aluminum, zinc, sodium, platinum, gold, silver, mercury, and a few others.

Oh, that long list includes iron, which is alloyed with other materials (like chromium, nickel, and copper to name a few) to make various grades of STEEL. Put enough nickel and chromium in it and you get various grades of stainless steel

And it's all metal.

Yes I did! Turned out fantastic! Cleaned the inside and we are good to go!

nice ! Always better to remove rusty tin, than to cover it up. Yes takes a bit more time, but done RIGHT, you'll never have to 'ugh....do it again...grrr.......'
