Is it safe to leave tractor ignition on my b5100 with out starting it? I have heard people say with cars that you should not leave ignitions on as it can damage the ignition coil but I don’t think this is applicable on a Diesel tractor. The reason I ask this is our property boards a single carriage way lane/road and I have some dead trees to fell. The trees will block the road when I cut them so I am thinking about parking my tractor across the road with its hazard strobes on while I fell the trees and then cut them up with my chainsaw. I could leave the engine running but am just wondering if its ok to have just the ignition on and I can then save a bit of fuel and also hours on the tractor.

If it is like my B7100, the hour meter will keep running with the ignition on.

My tractor was not fitted with an hour meter :(. I was thinking in terms of use of engine rather than cock read out.

I have a different model tractor but my hazard flashers are always hot (or able to turn on), not needing the ignition to be turned on. Are you sure yours isn't wired the same way.

Except for running down your battery, no harm will come to your B5100 by leaving the switch on. It really isn't an "ignition" switch.

In the UK we have different road lighting requirements to you guys in the states. I know you have a feature where you have two amber lights on the side of you tractor which flash at the same time we do not have this function in the uk. I have taken a picture of the back of my tractor for your interest. Standard Kubota factory fitted lighting for the uk at the rear are two red tail lights, two amber flashing turn / indicator lights and a number plate light. My tractor is wired so that ignition has to be on before any lights will work. The directional strobe I was referring to is an aftermarket light which I have fitted. It is just bellow my number plate. I tried to take a picture when it was on but it was two bright for my camera. You have to excuse my garage which is a bit of a tip at the moment.:)
