is a 6' box blade too big for L2501?

It’s not really a question of too big or not. It will easily lift it and depth can be controlled with the 3 point adjustment. It will mean you have to dump more often as it builds up material as you fill it up.
Fwiw, I have a 6 ft grader scraper on my L2501. It can be hard to pull when full of material when the material is very loose. Much easier as the gravel spreads out.
It might be handy to be larger as a snow moving tool if that is a consideration for you.

Can it work yes,,, will it work,,, maybe ! You have to remember you are pulling it through dirt gravel red dog what ever. And if you look at the dynamics of when it happening you can see that while the box does plain off a layer of material and re deposit it you still have to contend with the drag of the plaining blade as it moves through the material, the pressure is spread across the whole blade. The resistance of rocks and what ever when struck is transferred to the box, to the 3 point, to the frame of the tractor, and to the wheels. And from there back to the ground, where your tires are attempting to retain traction with the road/ground surface. To much and they can no longer retain traction and spin and nothing happens. As been said so many time about the compact tractors, you will run out of traction before you run out of power

Not the exact same but maybe worth noting. I pulled my 6' land plane with a L3400 and when it was full grading my road it would lose traction going up the slightest inclines in 4wd. I could raise it to let more gravel out and it would do fine.
Resulting in me choosing a larger tractor the l4600 which I pull it with now.
I found it frustrating I could not use the plane to as intended requiring more passes to move the gravel around leveling my roads and parking areas.
I'm sure if you go with the 6' box it will work but as mentioned by others traction may present a problem under not optimal conditions. Still you should be able to make it work.
I plan to order a 6' box from EA for my L4600.

I have a 6 ft box from Homestead Implements, on my L2501, 500 lbs. I have been using to to regrade and level yard, mostly clay, and have no issues. I do need 4wd when box starts getting full. I went with the Pinnacle series, 1/2" steel vs 3/8". Hope that helps!
I really have nothing to add that hasn't been said. I have one for my L2501 because I got a good deal on it on Craigslist and I have a bigger tractor and the 6 footer will cover the width of it too. I have used it a little bit and it works fine. An advantage is that it sticks out on each side, which makes it easier to get closer to areas. The disadvantage is that it sticks out on each side, which could be a problem if not paying attention.
I think it depends on how you plan to use it. I use a heavy duty 60” wide box blade that I use a lot with my L3200 HST for regrading areas in woodland, in 4 WD with AG tires I can cut and move a lot of dirt. If I went up to 72” wide I’m sure it would slow me down quite a bit.
I like the 60” as it covers the tractor width and I have enough power to use it effectively.
if I was just scraping and doing gravel drive maintenance I think72” wide could be a solution. A 66” wide sounds like a good balance of the two sizes.

It does depend on how you plan to use it but it also depends on what tires you are running. You get much more traction (ability) from R1/Ag's vs. R4/industrial tires.
Thanks everyone for your input. I will mainly use this to level about an acre to seed a lawn. Got a good deal on a used LMC 6' BB so that's what I'll be getting. I probably won't keep it after this job since I got no other use for it.

The great thing about used attachments is that you can just about buy and sell them without losing money, occasionally even make a little money. It's a great way to try things to see what you really need and what works for you.
Except for possibly the NEXT job down the road where you'll need it. They don't go bad... maybe get a little rusty but they can sit for years with doing anything to them.
