I try to help new people when they are looking for an item or information, so I often do a Google search which leads me back to many old posts on OTT & TBN. The common denominator on both forums is the people who sign up, make one or two posts about what their needs are, and then disappear never to be seen again. In many instances what they are looking for becomes available a couple of days later, but they are no longer visiting the forums to see the latest posts. I don't expect everyone to visit the forums every day, but at least if you ask for help, be courteous enough to come back and acknowledge the efforts of others to help you.

Although I haven't been able to provide advice as well as many of you, I do see that "one post wonder" behavior. There are posters that find these boards via Google, and are only looking for some help or one answer to one question (as opposed to being tractor enthusiasts).

I have thanked some of the people who came for advice and then followed through with an update.

At the very least, come back and post what the problem and solution ended up being so that it's a resource for the rest of us...

You got the idea. It was the BX23S that took the brunt of her anger! My wife got violent when I told her that I was going to sell her convertible.

I've been involved in various forums now for well over 20 years. It's always been that way, and will always continue to be that way until the end of time. If you get butt-hurt over it, you're in the wrong place.

Many people are just selfish and inconsiderate, especially with the anonymity of the forums and FB groups.

At the risk of being over philosophical here's my thoughts. As already mentioned, a percent of population is inconsiderate butt holes. Falls in the same category as the neighbor that borrows a tool and never returns it or those that cut in line. Can't change them but we could do something about the practice,,,,,,,,were it not for the ongoing race between forum members to see who can answer first to enhance their status. With moderator approval (approval, not rule) the first respondent could ask "if we can help you solve this will you return and post what worked for you?" 75% would never be back to read it and respond so it would end right there.

Another approach would be a sticky for 1st time posters that briefly explains why it's important for us to know what does and what doesn't work ( medicine has relied on this for centuries and any doctor will tell you today how much it helps him help patients). First respondent refers new inquirer to sticky as a condition of getting help. WHY or WHAT DOES THAT ACCOMPLISH one might ask? In my opinion it would contribute in a small way to a better overall attitude amongst forum members. Not a cure all by any means but a piece of the puzzle in helping members be more respectful by removing a bur from beneath their saddles.
