I am trying to install the crank and cams on my DH1101A. Is there a technique that I need to learn? I have cleaned the surfaces and lightly oiled all surfaces but the tolerances are so close I can not get them to slide into the proper location. I thought I would try lightly tapping them into place using a block of wood but I am concerned that I could damage the parts involved.

Lenny, how hard were they to remove? You might try polishing the surfaces with Emory cloth. A little light tapping shouldn't be a problem. If you use the emory cloth. be sure to clean all grit off before you install anything.

I didn't take the engine apart! I bought it completely disassembled and have since purchased the WSM from Kubota. As it turns out the person that I bought the tractor from had an oil pressure problem and removed the engine and sent it out for a quote on a rebuild. The price was higher than he was willing spend so he got the engine back in boxes! After reading several posts and watching some You Tube videos I am fairly confident that the pressure problem is the missing plug in the front end of the camshaft. I plastic gaged the crank and rod bearings and visual inspection shows little wear and none of the bearing had spun.

IMO plastigage is absolute trash-- the stuff is just too easy to screw up with.

Could one of the journals or one of the bearings been nicked during removal? Just a wild guess. They should go together pretty easily, even with the tight clearance that they run at.

After a lite clean up with a fine grit emery paper and assembling the crank and mains, everything went together with very little effort. I had used a 3M scotch pad on all of the surfaces thinking that would clean up any debris or light rust, but I was wrong. Plus I think that the weight of the assembled crank actually helps with the process. Thanks for all of the suggestions !
