Two weeks ago we went to see the Bruins play(with the slight possibility of a win) in boston.
A birthday present for me bought by my girlfriend back in July.
In the stands the woman behind us was talking and coughing about her son being at the hospital with the flu.
And on the train back after the game the guy sitting in front of us was chocking like a 40 yr smoker. At the time I thought if I had two masks I'd put both on..that was Saturday. Tuesday morning of course a scratchy throut I felt. Then down hill from there. Today is day 10 with the stinking flu. My girlfriend got it. And my buddy who's 83 that comes for coffee every afternoon even he knew I was sick is battling it now.
I had the flu shot.
But this flu is as bad or worse then any covid i had in yrs past.
Its bad. If someone was weak it would no doubt kill them.
I one day a yr I step out from the homestead. I pay the price.
This is why I don't leave home.
I hope everyone stays healthy this winter.

I hope everyone in your group gets well soon. At this point, it's pretty obvious to most that we will get most of what's out there unless we stay home all of the time. Unfortunately, there are a lot of variants of Covid, Flu, Respiratory illnesses.

We have been seeing the Flu and Covid cases running through work, schools, and local churches.

Our nieces have all bee sick with the Influenza-A. We have had two people at work test positive for Covid. Plus, two of the area churches closed those their doors last Sunday and went online due to so many members being sick.

My former secretary is in the hospital, she has pneumonia and Influenza-A. Landed her in ICU. Thankfully, after a couple days of antibiotics, she is doing better and hopefully will get out of the hospital this weekend.

So, it is spreading like a wildfire in our area.

Largely caused by indiscriminate use of free/cheap antibiotics and vaccines in Central America creating a petri dish and incubator for new strains resistant to treatment.

The medical system does seem broken.
At the walk in clinic I went to i mentioned the Zpac antibiotics to the NP.
She replied we just don't hand that out haphazardly. I said but if you want to buy dope you can just go down to the street corner and get whatever you want.
She gives me a dirty look. We can't hand out antibiotics as one day you might need it. I replied and this is that day.
No antibiotics were prescribed.

I'm rolling up on day 7 with "something"

It hit me like a sack of hammers Saturday at 1000

I have been in bed coughing/hacking with "mind crushing" headaches.

No throwing up as of now.

Been a rough ride for sure.

Hope y'all fair better than I have. I haven't gotten a wink of sleep neither from all the coughin.

Applying similar logic, dogs must meet far more ridged vaccination, quarantine and other regulations than humans coming from foreign countries. Thousands of cattle were forbid to enter USA a few weeks ago because screw worms were discovered on one.

I had something very similar the week of January 6th. I started to get a cold a couple of days before leaving the UK and heading back to the US. Once I was back, I had a terrible, painful hacking cough with headaches, muscle weakness, some joint pain, fatigue, a few hours of fever and chills. The following week wasn't much better, and even now, a month later, I still have a bit of a cough.

I had to travel to Illinois for week all last week and I thought I might regress, but I was taking 2,000 mg of Vitamin C a day along with Advil and managed to stay "healthy" that week.

Getting feeling better soon. Hopefully, you are getting through the worst part of it and will be back on your tractor before you know it.

True for antibiotics and bacterial problems, but not viral.

Antibiotics have no effect on viruses. Viruses can't be cultured on a petri dish.

Flu, COVID, and many other respiratory maladies are viral. Viruses mutate regularly. The Flu vaccine offered each year to folks tries to "predict" the prevalent variants each year in the US. Some years it's accurate; some not so much.....

That said, you are very correct in that there are many bacterial species strains that are antibiotic resistant. Been that way for 30+ years in the US and been getting worse for years.

Many years ago, in the same hospital, had a friend die from an antibiotic-resistant strain of staphylococcus infection the same day his wife gave birth to their first child.... very sad. 😥

I hate people who are sick & go out in public with no regard for others.

Right at the start of covid, my FIL had a crisis & we took him to the ER.
My wife went in with him, but they wouldn't allow me to go in with them, so I stayed in the public waiting area.
Almost immediately, a middle age woman who was apparently sick as a dog, began hawking up golf ball sized gobs of phlegm and spitting them on the floor of the waiting room. o_O
I told her to stop, but she apparently didn't speak english. (or simply didn't care to respond)
I pointed this out to the receptionist & a PA, and they said they had asked her to stop, but she kept doing it. Then they shrugged.
I spent the rest of the time in the parking lot, but started to feel crummy that night.
The next day I went to my doc, and he confirmed an incredibly fast incubation strain of strep (as little as 4hrs from exposure) was going around, and I had it.
It was bad for a week, but I got over it.
I moved out to the 5th wheel for almost two weeks, so I wouldn't pass it to the wife, and then on to her parents.
Can't help but think I had this uncaring bitch to thank for a week plus of sickness. 🤬

I had it a couple of months ago and got over it by resting. The most difficult thing was taking the dog out for his morning, afternoon, and evening walks.

I've been really lucky and haven't been sick for going on 30 years. I only remember being really sick twice, once in the early 70s with strep throat, and in the early 90s with the flu. But, I worked from home from the late 80s until I retired in 2019. I do go out almost every day to a store or restaurant, but have s o far avoided getting the flu or Covid. I have had the sniffles occasionally, but that's most likely an allergic reaction to dust in the summer and fall. I have gotten all the Covid vaccines and a flu shot every year, so maybe that helps. Everyone of my friends seem to get sick on a regular basis, and have been exposed to them quite often, but haven't come down with anything so far. Guess I'm lucky, or have a really good immune system.

I’ve had the same thing for the past 10 days: headache, alternating runny nose and stuffed up nose, post nasal drip causing coughing fits, and sore throat. Nothing in the chest, just head and throat. My home covid test was negative. Pretty rotten. I’m telling people that it’s bird flu.

Sorry to hear that and I hope you get well soon. (y) I'm regressing a bit which might be due to being outside in cold, dry air shoveling snow while the tractors warm up.

I was at the dentist earlier this week, and the oral tech I typically see told me that she caught a respiratory illness in November. She mentioned that her cough lingered for almost four months and finally she went to a doctor and got Prednisone which got rid of the cough.

It is ironic that in 4 short years we went from masks, hand sanitizer, distancing and incessant hand washing.....to not even using soap after pinching a loaf in a public bathroom 🙄

Didn't you learn anything from the "experts"?

No need for soap, since the 6 foot rule was gonna save us all according to this criminal.

Makes me wonder why there is an egg shortage if all we had to do was mask the chickens and get them to stay 6 wings apart.

Recent discoveries with Bird Flu really has me concerned.

While we know what it does to egg prices, they’re seeing transmission to cows and humans in ways unknown before.

While an apparent rarity at this point, if it were to become pervasive could disrupt our chicken, egg, beef and dairy industries greatly. More than it already has.

Something to keep an eye on.
