Welcome. Bobcat ( tractors) are made by kioti or they were anyways. I think kioti has really stepped up there game to compete with with John Deere and Kubota. They are actually 3rd in sales in compact tractor sales market. Bobcat being a construction focused company will charge a lot more for the same parts that Kioti will. You are paying for the bobcat emblem. I looked into kioti/bobcat found here anyways the tractor and service parts were cheaper to go kioti. Now also depends on dealer too for sales and service. Now if your looking at comparing the two models see what feels better for your needs. Usually kioti/bobcat will have a bit stronger loaders compared to Kubota but don’t let that be a selling point , not always a good thing. Kubota will hands down be better at resale if that ever comes to happen. I don’t think you will regret any of them they are all good tractors. Whatever you choose stay safe happy tractoring

The dealer is always a big part of the equation. There are good and bad dealers for all brands.

I dislike talking "smack" about other tractor brands, so I won't, and I have zero previous "Tractor'N" experience.

I bought my Kubota based on their "reputation".

A guy I know has a 'medium'ish" landscape company ( 50 to 70 people).and he swears by his Kubota tractors.

He suggested that I look around at the local 'Rent All" places and see what they have for rent.....Lots of Kubota it turns out.

I try not to buy "the new guys" stuff, but rather "tend" to buy 'Ole Reliable' stuff.........Hence my proclivity to buy Yamaha, Kubota, and Cummins.......

YMMV, but good luck brother.

Either way your getting a tractor so.....(y)(y)(y)

Well, Bobcat quit the tractor business once... but came back into it.

Both Kioti and Bobcat tractors are built in S. Korea by Daedong. Daedong puts their own name on similar tractors as well. Bobcat can easily drop the tractor line again... which as long as Kioti makes parts for it might not be a problem.

My 2 cents, buy the Kubota.... (but this is an Orange tractor forum!!!)

Congrats on your 5 acres and for looking to purchase your first tractor! That’s exciting!

You haven’t listed any tasks/chores/jobs you have planned for your tractor so it’s difficult to get into any detail. However, I’ve owned a Kubota B2601 and it is a great tractor! I highly recommend it!

I currently own the L2501 because I needed more weight and more loader capacity for the jobs I perform on my property.

I looked at lots of various brands while tractor shopping. In my area JD was by far the most expensive tractor brand. But, shockingly, Kubota wasn’t much more expensive than other competitors (Massey Ferguson, Kioti, New Holland, etc). For me, Kubota was an easy choice. In addition, I landed on Kubota because of their reputation, quality and high resale value (I experienced the high resale value when I sold the B2601).

Kubota has increased their pricing recently so I don’t know how competitive they currently are with the other brands.

As mentioned, try to quantify the tasks you intend to perform and many will be willing to give you advice on size.

As for the brands, I'm on my third Kubota but have been open to others. Bobcat was one of them. While shopping for my 4th tractor (ended up with my second Kubota) in 2012 I wanted something of at least 30HP. I looked at a Bobcat CT335 that was for sale by a private party. Liked it and told him I'd take it. Then he began to have all sorts of excuses for not getting together and eventually stopped communicating.

The only negative thing with the Bobcat was having that white hood reflecting the sun. It's bad enough with a clean orange hood.

Given Bobcat is made by Daedong anyway, why not just buy a Kioti (their main brand)? Probably a similar tractor, probably better support.

My experience with Kubota is that Kubota have been making pretty much the same tractors for 30 years or more. Every 5 years or so they tweak them a bit, fixing the things that have given issues. They're reliable because most of the things that can go wrong have been seen long ago, and been refined.

Kioti is a bit newer to the market. They have a lot of history in South Korea obviously (they're not a new company), but 30 years ago South Korea was a pretty poor country, the tractors they were making for their domestic market weren't at the same level of sophistication as the Japanese.

Nothing wrong with a Kioti. My father had a big Kioti and he loved it. It did everything he needed and never gave issues. He had an older Kubota before that, and didn't think the Kioti to be worse. But, to be fair, he ultimately bought the Kioti because it was cheaper than a similar sized Kubota - he took the choice he'd rather a bit more metal than a bit more sophistication.

A B2601 is at the lower end of what I'd buy for 5 acres. It's big enough, but only just. An LX or an L2501/2 would give you more capability. There's not all that much in it, but you'd see 30%-ish more capacity. Do you need a MMM or mid-PTO for anything (such as a snowblower)? Are you weight limited for transport? Do you need a cab? If the answer to all those is no, an L2502 is great buying.

I know a guy pretty well that travels around the country maintaining golf course turf. A specialist of sorts. He swears by Kubota. He operates a fleet of them. He buys them used and they run forever he says. He is the reason I bought mine. Him and having this forum to help me with issues . You will love a Kubota. When I see a Bobcat machine I count the rust spots. Good luck.

So to be honest i dont really know what my exact uses and chores are for the tractor. Living on 5 acres is also new to me. My property is partially overgrown with blackberries, 4’ tall grass/ weeds. But the majority of it was well maintained by the previous owners( pastors and such) I had to drop several very large douglas fir trees that i now need to move around and clean up the mess. Gravel driveway that needs maintenance probably few times a year. The dude at kubota originally had me looking at Lserious , after reading some of y’alls replies, im thinking i should go a bit bigger than the B2601.

You need to ask yourself how important is part availability, part cost, and consumables costs.

I blew the main hydraulic hard line on my 9 year old M59 TLB on a Wednesday and had the part in hand Friday morning.

I broke the front ring and pinion gear on my NH and had to wait 3 weeks and mortgage my left nut for the parts. The same part from K would have been 50% cheaper and in my hands within 3 days.

This is why I bought my 4th K instead of a 2nd NH.

N.Y,
I just Bought a Kioti CK2620 cab because Kubota offered nothing like it. The LX came in at just about $8k more when remotes, 19.5 filled tires, and 3rd function but was too light for my needs. Always bought Kubotas in the past but really the deciding points were the individual forward and reverse pedals, easier cab access, grammar seat, and loader control ergonomics. I just never really liked my BX rocker and driving the Kioti with 2 pedals was so comfortable on my bad ankle. I also really like the Kioti dealer I chose and same warranty as a Kubota with what looks like equal quality to me. Time will tell if I made the right choice. I was told parts distribution no longer is a problem with Kioti building a better system as they shoot for #2. I also didn't like how the local Kubota service rep and dealer handled a problem I had with one of their products and figure Kioti can't be any worse.

Welcome to the forum. You posted a question yesterday and received 12 responses with answers relative to your questions (in one day). You mention inexperience with tractors.

Now if you were a new tractor owner and something wasn't working properly, or you didn't even know how to operate that part of the tractor where would you go for an answer? Other machines have similar forums you can join and seek help, but what is the response rate/time?

My point is you may have a fairly simple problem (to about every one on this board), post here and get an answer on a Saturday evening or any time Sunday. Try getting an answer from another forum, or a dealer tech at those times..... not happening. Add up the years of Kubota experience on this forum (and there are a couple of on the job Kubota techs that post regularly) and try to put a value o that.

I'm trying to get some information on a Caterpillar #44 hydraulic pump for a D2. I've posted on a very good Antique Cat forum and in three weeks have four responses. That's just for comparisons. I've had worse responses on a skid steer forum.

Balance cost, service help, parts availability in your equation. I went to the Kubota dealer to get a specific "O" ring I needed quickly. It was metric in a place that I didn't want to "hope" I got the correct part. Dealer had 10ea. i stock @.90 each. Gas to get there obviously cost more then that . but I got what I needed when I needed it.

We also have 5 acres and a B2601.

Our property has several cleared areas (house site, driveways, power line) and is mostly a hardwoods forest.

Our property has a power line running through it and we maintain it with a Land Pride rotary cutter (“bush hog’). Our gravel driveways are a total of about 350’ long and we maintain them with our front end loader and a 5’ blade. We heat mostly with wood and move a lot of logs with a boom pole and move cut/split wood with the front end loader. We move brush with the forks. My wife drives the HST tractor for her garden- moving mulch and topsoil, hauling the trimmings from the landscape bushes.

We bought the B2601 new 2 years ago and have used it for more chores than I ever thought possible.

This is our fourth tractor since 1988-an old Allis Chalmers, a Massey Fergusen T30 and a T35. they were all old and definitely used, but the B2601 is remarkably stronger, better and more useful than any of those old tractors.

We bought the B2601 with HST drive, the front end loader, a set of forks and the rotary cutter. I think it was the best choice for a small property owner with the maintenance work that I mentioned above. I am constantly amazed at this tractor and the work it does for us. We have had zero problems and would certainly recommend that tractor for a similar size property.

Good luck with your choice-the Kubota is the best I could imagine.

Good day.

Is there a bobcat forum? If so I’d ask there too…maybe larger sample size of people with direct experience.

If can’t find many owners/users then maybe ask yourself if wanting something different/exclusive vs common owned. To me commonly owned suggests access to dealer service / distribution of (availability) parts.

Bobcat is fairly common though so maybe no issue for service / parts (I am not sure myself)?

If the product is made by Kioti that you want, what’s the reason to buy with a bobcat badge? Different spec? Cheaper? Service network? Or specific to a great dealer? (If dealer specific what if dealer is sold or goes out of business?).

Another question might be if it’s common to see used Kubotas for sale at Bobcat dealers?

Just my thoughts. Good luck.

That’s fair. I too hadn’t owned any acreage before purchasing my 5 acres here in the PNW roughly 8 years ago. There’s definitely a learning curve.

If you have some time, please read part 1 of my thread here;

You’re welcome to read the whole thread but, in part 1, I breakdown my experience with tractor purchasing and get into a little detail about the work I do on my property and why I eventually purchased the L2501 to replace my capable B2601. It may help give you a bit more perspective.

Regarding the blackberries and tall weed/brush…I used a more physical approach…my Stilh Kombi KR 131R trimmer with brush cutter blade. My property had never been developed or maintained before. It took a lot of work but, was worth it.

After owning a Kubota that just rolled over 500 hours, I don’t have anything bad to say about Kubota or the two dealerships I deal with. After spending a few active years on this forum, I don’t hear much bad about them either; a few issues/complaints but not much.

As @rc51stierhoff suggested above, asking a Bobcat tractor forum about Bobcat tractors and lurking a bit to see what kind of issues they may be having might be useful. While there may be others, Tractor By Net has a sub forum for Bobcat tractors. https://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/bobcat-tractors/

If you're moving logs, you'll want a grapple. A B2601 doesn't have a lot of lift capacity. L2502 would lift quite a bit more. Ultimately it comes down to how short you have to cut the logs before the machine will pick them up.

My first piece of advise is don't consider any rebranded tractors. Those agreements tend to come and go and sometimes effect parts availability. Kiote, LS, and TYM all furnish rebranded tractors to various sellers and it's not always easy to know which brands are which. I think even New Holland contracts for some tractors and rebrands them New Holland so do your homework as you are doing here. If you consider a tractor built by one of those companies go ahead and get one with that manufactures brand name on it.

It sounds like you need a good mid sized tractor with a brush mower and grapple to start with. Depending on the ground and grass area you choose to maintain you may later want a good finish mower. For the gravel driveway a landscape rake works great. They are also beneficial for leveling tilled ground. Get one that more than covers the tractors width so you can angle it as needed. If you can afford it I would focus on a 30 to 50 HP tractor with a cab that has good working climate control. For mowing large areas a good working cruise control is a big advantage for reduced fatigue. I prefer having a removable loader for mowing tasks.

I have 7 acres, 5 of which was a 40 year stand of pines I had clear cut 8 years ago. I wanted the stumps dug out as opposed to mulched. One quote was for 10 grand and the guy said I would need a larger tractor than my JD855 I had at the time to clean up after him. The only other quote I got was for 25 grand and that was cleaned, burned, and finish graded. In hindsight that would have been my best deal but I was about to retire and had time on my hands so I put half that much money into a full size backhoe. I am near the finish line but still working on it 7 years later. On the upside the backhoe will probably be worth what I have in it when I'm done.

I own 3 different tractors but when my clearing is done I would like to get down to one mid sized cab tractor.

My backhoe is a New Holland 575E. Most of the repairs I have had were hydraulic hoses and cylinder repairs. The hoses can be built local. I use a Carquest that only uses Gates hose and fittings. Before that I tried another shop that uses various brands and have had to replace some of those that didn't hold up. Hydraulic cylinder parts have been a total PITA to source and way over priced from NH. Being the budget minded (spelled CHEAP) person I am I have pieced together generic kits.

My workhorse is a John Deere 4310. In my opinion it is the near perfect size. If it had a cab and AC I could be perfectly content with it.

My most recent tractor purchase is a Kubota LX3310 cab with a mid mount mower and loader. I got a steal of a deal on it with 200 hours on the clock and 4 years remaining powertrain warranty. It is just used as an overgrown lawn tractor. The loader sits parked for the day I resell it. The AC works great and the mower finish is also great. That's the end of my love for it. It rides rough as hell and the cruise control amplifies the hydro whine beyond OSHA approved sound levels. Kubota says the sound levels are characteristic of this model and nothing can be done to improve it but they supposedly DID improve it on the new LX series.
