This morning, I was onthe back porch drinking a cup of coffee, and what to my wondering eyes should appear but 3 bucks coming out of the woods,,, The doe's have been around all summer, but never saw a buck. First a 6 that is really high and solid points, then his big brother an 8 that was very respectable with brow tines maybe 8 inches long if not longer, and then the old man, a big 8 point, I swear he is 18 inches between the beams. Heavy beams and long tines, still in velvet and growing. And no they are safe here, I wont shoot anything in the yard, except ground hogs. Made for an enjoyable cup of coffee this morning

I always enjoy seeing deer, any deer, in the back yard, but seeing the next generation is always very gratifying. One of three fawns in the back yard yesterday. I keep a trail cam set up back there year round.

What brand of cameras do you have. I have several Kenco and the batteries last about 6 months or more depending on how cold it gets. In the winter they are hard on batteries from the cold. I set one by the one side of our yard today. We have a couple of bears crossing there. I have seen them a couple of times and we have had them on our deck. One night I was sitting in the chair next to the slider and it was dark. I saw something move and I turned and was staring eye to eye with one looking in the window. That raised my heartbeat

I enjoy looking a the pictures my game cameras capture. This one is about 150' from our house. We see deer in our front yard and walking up and down our driveway. Nice to live on 40 acres of wooded land.

I am using moultree mcs-12641 which is panoramic. They advertise long battery life but I never get a month out of them and it takes 6 c cells. I would guess that could be as many as 2000 pictures and if you have to count it as times 3 for panoramic that would be 6000.

My cameras of the past that used "C" batteries did not last long either.

I now run 3 Reconyx cameras that use "AA" batteries. Life of these are great. I have mine set to take 1 pic, pause 3 seconds, take 2nd pic, pause 3 seconds take 3rd pic, wait 30 seconds and start over. I average 5K to 6K per week on each camera from June until February. It will take on average 2 sets of batteries from June until December and one set from December until February. The cold draws them down.

The cameras are a little pricey but over a 5 year period the cost to operate is cheap and the pic quality is very good.

I would love to run Reconyx but I just can't strap that much money to a tree and walk away from it.

I still have a good many Bushnell and Covert cameras from 2012. Since then I don't think either has made a camera that's as good as those. Other than that I have a good many of the Stealth Cam G42NG, probably the best camera ever made for under $300.

I buy Ultimate Lithium batteries by the case where ever I can find them cheapest, last time I think it was 288 batteries. MUCH cheaper than buying them in a store in 4 packs. I get more than a year in most of my cameras, but the Stealths don't get as good of life since they only take 8 batteries where the others take 12.

I understand I am careful where I put them but I know that they still could be stolen.

I buy $20 camera tripods with adjustable legs, paint them camo and place my cameras on them. If someone is going to steal it they will regardless of it locked to a tree or not. So I use the tripods so I am not limited as to where I can locate it.

I don't have a problem with someone stealing them. The problem I have is the bear. They like to eat them. I have built boxes for mine out of 1/4 steel and that protects them. The feeder have to be off the ground and on a cable so it swings or they will get them to. I had a Mol tree feeder that was the first one I bought 20 years ago and they got that. I call them for parts and they told me if I sent the old to them they would give me a new one. They wanted the old one to see what damage was done to improve their design

If I did video I'd never be able to watch them all. Most of what I care about is what's showing up and when. I do a lot of time lapse of food plots so video wouldn't work to good there. October and November I take off Fridays, pull all my cameras Friday morning and spend a few hours looking a pictures to plan where I'm hunting that weekend (and often kick myself when I see where I SHOULD have been the previous weekend).

It's kind of awesome when you see an new buck on camera and you are able to harvest him that evening or the next day. It doesn't happen often, but that's how the two on the wall that I actually have trail cam pictures of happened. The ones I want to target that I get hundreds of pictures of over several weeks I never seem to see them in the flesh.
