I just bought my first tractor!

Hi! So I'm new to the tractor community. I've came across this forum multiple times when doing research and figured I should join in case I have any questions or in need of ideas.

I just purchased a new to me 2022 Kubota L2501 HST with less than 50 hours on it. I wasn't looking for a tractor this size, but when I was shopping around....yes I looked at the green tractor too and this bad boy was sitting in the used lot. I checked it out and I'm like what the heck? It's like brand new! The tired still have the little nubbies on it.

But what caught my eye was the included attachments. It came with SSQA HLA 2000lbs pallet forks, Land Pride 6ft snow plow, Land Pride 3 point ballet box, I think it's the 600lbs one. Also has the mechanical bucket level indicator and diamond studded snow chains. The bucket still has the paint on it, like it was barely used. There's no scratches on paint either

All for $21,800. I talked to the dealership about it and it was a trade in because the previous owner wanted a bigger tractor with a cab. They priced it to sell and been having a hard time trying to get rid of it because well it's at a John Deere dealership.

I managed to get it for $19,500 so I think I got one heck of good deal. It's a beautiful tractor and purrs like a kitten.

I was gonna buy a new 2024 LX2620SU and finance it, it's a nice tractor and would've been perfect for my property but this L2501 I was able to pay in full and not have to finance it. So I decided to go bigger!

I have a lot of work to be done, my driveway needs to be rebuilt and I'm sure having this heavier machine will make easy work of it. I have a lot of trees that need to be taken down and brush to be moved. So while a grapple would be nice, I'll make do with forks for now. I have a lot of landscaping work to do as well. It's gonna be super helpful tool around here.

I've operated equipment before so I have some experience but not a ton. It will be nice to be able to learn and have the satisfaction of completing a project myself.

I've watched many videos on doing the regular service on the tractor and man it looks rather easy...my side by side is a pain to service and this tractor despite having more filters to change just seems straight forward.

So yeah, I'm excited! I'll be sure to share some pictures when I have it hopefully next week.

I actually talked to the dealer and the person who actually sold that tractor back in 2022. I'm gonna purchase a Land Pride box blade there so hopefully I get a free Kubota hat

Your scenario sounds similar to the steal of a deal I got on my LX3310 cab tractor sans the attachments. I was actually shopping for a larger JD cab tractor at an independent auction dealer. I was up on my second day of inspecting a tractor I wanted to bid on and between the first and second day this little LX3310 showed up on the lot. My main objective was an air conditioned cab to mow with so I didn't really need a larger tractor but the larger tractor would have replaced my current JD. So now I have three tractors instead of two.

The story on mine was it was traded in to the JD dealer down the road and they didn't want it on the lot so they wholesaled it to the auction dealer that also sells stuff outright. It has a 72" mid mount mower and a loader that had never had a scoop of dirt in the bucket and 200 hours on the clock. All I can say about the price was the original owner had to have taken a serious beating on the trade in.

I feel bad they got a terrible trade in value but it's good for us second hand owners haha. I really was interested in the LX2620, seemed like a really nice comfortable tractor but for what I got...I would have been easily in the $30k range.

I did a lot of research on tractors and I kept coming back to the L series, I know it's a "basic" machine but nothing wrong with basic when it does the job. The amount of videos I watched between the L, LX and B series... pretty much all the B and LX tractors I noticed how jerky the hydraulics were and when they picked up a bucket of dirt or stone it was so bouncy even with counterweight. But the L series just looked smoother and not bouncing a lot when there is a full bucket of material.

Perhaps I'm wrong but it's just what I've witnessed from the videos and in person with the smaller tractors.

I really wanted the 2502, I liked that they removed the clutch and now has a electronic activated PTO, but I don't have any intentions on using the PTO anyways. Starting it with the clutch depressed isn't a big deal. But I like that the 2502 has the better seat and the led lights, particularly the side lights that lights up the loader better. They're minor really. I plan on upgrading the headlights lights to led anyways, I'm gonna get the rubber floor mats and the second grab handle for mine so that will be nice. There are aftermarket suspension seats for the 2501, but boy they expensive!! I have seen people add arm rests on the basic seat so I might look into that.

Honestly it will be fun adding upgrades to mine, I did that with my side by side. Good projects for rainy days.

The best values are found when you find something you like and can use at a dealer that does not sell that brand! They don't like other colors on their lot. You got a lot of equipment for the price. Congratulations.

I was looking for a 2501 when I purchased mine because I wanted to turbo it. At the time I could not find a new 2501 anywhere. I will probably eventually turbo the 2502 just because. I don't need the extra power but I love to modify things lol. I do really like the brakes being on the left and the seat is absolutely amazing. It's a very comfortable ride no doubt! The electric PTO is nice for when I am tilling my large garden. I took off one of the second grab handle and mounted a two spool valve in it's place to operate the rear top link and 3rd function for my grapple. My dealer threw in the arm rests and bolt on cutting edge for free. I use the arm rests at all times!

A new L2502 HST with FEL and bucket is somewhere around $27k so it sounds like you got way more than "one heck of a good deal". The phrase "you stole it" comes to mind. Congratulations!

Is the front snow blade hydraulic? If so, you must already have a 3rd function too. I have the LP STB1596 and it works really well for pushing snow.

Unfortunately it's not hydraulic, no 3rd function. It's not a deal breaker. If I gotta get off a few times change that's ok. I have a hydraulic plow on my side by side as well. But honestly I typically leave it angled until I push it into the pile.

My side by side is enclosed with heat but honestly I plan on selling it because I only use it during winter for most part. It's a lot of money that just sits. The tractor will be so much more useful. I'm gonna try to plow with the tractor and see how it does. The side by side while I can angle it from inside the cab, it's just lifts with the winch. It works well but the downside is no down pressure so back dragging often just leads to the plow floating on top of the snow unless it's powder snow and I can't push snow higher in the bank leading to the snow bank getting pushed further back. I mean I have to plow 30 feet further than the parking area to have room. I'm hoping with the tractor I may not need make it so extreme.

It will suck being back in the cold again but on the other hand I'll be so focuser operating the tractor I won't be thinking about it! But I really wanna learn how to plow with a loader. Float position might be nice and I can curl plow back a little so it won't dig into the driveway as much. It might end up being better!

There's a few spots that I can't get to with the side by side and always required me to shovel it out. But with the tractor, the distance between the front tires and the plow is a lot more further than the side by side and the plow so I might be able to back drag it out and save time!

I'm aware it's gonna take practice but there's no better way to learn than to try. Plus if I mess up the drive way...well I got a tractor to fix it in the spring

You always have the option to add hydraulics and a 3rd function down the road if you decide that it would be beneficial. I moved snow for five years with a BX, and when I upgraded to an MX it was an open station too, so being out in the cold wasn't why I ultimately upgraded to cabbed tractors.

Wow! Those photos really put your amazing deal into perspective. Congratulations again! HLA makes top quality stuff so having a set of their pallet forks is a real bonus.
