Hello all,

New to the forum and have been enjoying the wealth of knowledge and ideas. Thought of a question the other day and I felt would be right up the forum's ally. When you use the tractor hydraulics to power an implement, in my case a wood splitter, are you "contaminating" the overall reservoir of hydraulic fluid the tractor normally uses? Are the implement hydraulics and transmission hydraulics separate and distinct? Should care be taken to bleed a new implement and put in your own matching hydraulic fluid?

I never have worried about. I just hook them up and go. Haven't had a problem yet. Seems the biggest thing is making sure the connectors are all clean before hooking them up.

I have thought the same thing, best practice is to never ever loan your hydraulic attatchments to anyone. Keeps risk of contamination to a minimum.

Tooljunkie has the best advise, don't loan your implements. Whatever runs thru the implement from another tractor goes straight into yours.

Good advise from all. Does anybody know if the implement hydraulics and the drive hydraulics are separate or do they share a common reservoir? Thanks in advance.

Good post! Never thought about it before. Makes perfect sense though... kinda like a sexually transmitted disease!
