I thought I'd start a new thread because I'm probably boring half of you to death with my stump grinder build.
I'm at the point in the build where I have to figure out the hydraulic valves. For the up and down and sideways, I purchased a joystick valve which will take care of the bulk of the work. (Thanks Wolfman for the suggestion!)
I want to go with a solenoid valve to engage the hydraulic motor that drives the cutting wheel. I know it can't be a regular on/off type because the inertia of the wheel spinning will turn the motor into a pump as its winding down. There has to be a path for this oil to go. In my research, I see solenoid valves listed with a 'motor spool'. Sounds like what I need, but I have no experience with them. Can anybody educate me in the right type of valve? This would be actuated by a switch on my dash.
The other challenge is the extend/retract cylinder. I need a solenoid valve that will send pressure to the lock cylinders when in the 'middle', but release the pressure and engage a cylinder forward or backwards when energized with a three position switch. Is there even such a valve? If so, this would allow me to control the grinder with one handle, which would be awesome!
Looking forward to the replies on this!
