I have decided to purchase a hydraulic top link for my MX5400 tractor. Any recommendations on manufacturers and lengths?

You will love the addition of a top link. The most important thing is to get the right length for your tractor. I would recommend that you go take some measurements - specifically what is your mid-point pin to pin measurement and then what min length and max length can you take without binding. For me this midpoint was ~22" and I could easily do an 18" (min) and a 26" (max). As such I purchased the cylinder from THESE guys.

For the lines, I purchased THIS kit from Tractor Supply. Only took a few minutes to install everything.

What works very well for the MX series tractors is a 2 1/2" dia cylinder with a 1 1/2" dia rod with a working length of 23 1/4"- 35 1/4" similar to what is on the left in the picture.

This needs to be a cat 1-2 unit to keep the factory capabilities.
Your tractor end takes a 3/4" pin with a 1 3/4" wide ball swivel.
The implement end should be a narrow cat 2 ball swivel (takes a 1" pin) at 1 3/4" wide.

Good luck. :)
