Hydraulic steering

Hello all,
Can anyone tell me how much noise the hydraulic steering should make on a M9960. Not being overly familiar with tractors, mine sounds and feels like a car that is a little low on power steering fluid. I checked the hydraulic fluid and it is fine. Is this normal?

I’m not familiar with that particular tractor, however I will offer two things to look at. First, check the fluid level in the front axle, and secondly, is the machine in four wheel drive? I had a slow leak in one front tire, and the steering felt funny, like you described, however I don’t notice any noise, but with the hydrostatic transmission it’s tough to hear anything else. Some folks leave four wheel drive on all of the time, but I don’t, I can feel the difference in steering.

Good luck!

Does it just feel funny while sitting still or when you're moving?

It's normal for them to be a little stiff sitting still just because the tires are biting in.

I can hear and feel it when I turn the wheel, similar to a car low on power steering fluid. When I'm not moving it's fine. Thanks for your response

No recent services. When I say it's like a car, it would be when you first realize the fluid is low, not like a car that's been neglected. Is it normal to hear it and feel it in the wheel as you turn to any degree?

I think you have a problem. My M9000 is very smooth and quiet.

Has it had this problem or is this something that just started?

I noticed it recently but I am not sure if it has been going on since I only had the 2013 tractor for a few months. I always wore ear protection and didn't hear it but recently noticed the slight vibration in the wheel. Do you think changing the fluid would help?

It really depends on which fluid you go back with. If you go cheap with something like TSC fluid it may even hurt performance. Do yourself a favor and use SUDT2 fluid.

If you really have a problem it may not help but it sure won't hurt anything.
