Hydraulic Oil vs Transmission Fluid MX5800

Hi all. I'm about to do my 50 hour maintenance on my MX5800. The manual says I should change both the hydraulic oil filter and the transmission oil filter. From what I've read here I only need to change these filters to get rid of any factory contaminants and I do not need to change the fluid. Is that true? No complete fluid change?

Also the manual says "Hydraulic oil serves as transmission fluid" So am I correct in thinking although there are two filters they filter the same main reservoir of fluid (Super UDT-2)?

thanks for the help

also I won't stir up the best oil debate. I'm gonna figure that one out for myself.

It is a common reservoir, same fluid for both systems. The newer books say to only change filters but I'm a firm believer in doing a full service. Bottom line it's your tractor so you get to decide if you want to chance it. Personally after 3 new tractors I'll do the full service if nothing else for peace of mind. Even if you choose to keep running the oil I'd at least suggest to change the front axle. It doesn't have a filter so any filings left in the housing will stay there until you drain it.

Don't blame you on the oil subject but SUDT 2 would be a good choice.

The 50h service of the transmission / hydraulic fluid and filters comes up frequently here. When the fluid is not specified to be changed at 50h, there seems to be about a 50/50 split on opinions on whether to change the fluid anyway.

My last 2 Kubotas specified 50h replacement of the transmission oil filter only at 50h, then the hydraulic filter and fluid at 400h. The first machine got both filters and fluid at 50h, and my current machine just the transmission filter.

I will say that it's going to be more difficult to not change the fluid at 50h when you remove the hydraulic filter, as the fluid is going to really dump fast. Some here use a vacuum on the fill port to make it easier, but I have never tried it. For an overall easier service, since your tractor requires both filters at 50h, I would just drain and replace the fluid. JMHO !

If operators manual authored by the manufacturer states change filters at 1st 50 hrs & not the oil then that's what I'd do. If at 50 hrs of service hyd oil isn't contaminated with a foreign type liquid then it should be good as new oil.

I'm with Bulldog. Oil and filters are cheap insurance. Change them both. Especially the front axle. There is little lubricant in the to begin with.
