I have figured out how to disassemble the single acting cylinders without gland caps. If you remove the input line fitting you can align the rod base with the hole. Inside you will find a circlip that is retaining the assembly together. Use a small screwdriver and try to flick the circlip toward the length of the rod. This will allow it to fall into a second grove and be positioned for reassembly. Once this clip is in the second grove, it will allow the rod to be removed, and new seals installed. Hopefully this will help some forum members some money and they can purchase just the seals instead of a new cylinder. This one came off a g2160 which Kubota does not list as rebuildable(seals). If you take measurements, there are online vendors, or local hydraulic shops that can get the seals.

Clever repair. Kubota is really proud of those cylinders - $350+ for a new one!!!!

Is the c clip the stop when the cylinder is extended?
Yes, the c clip when in the upper grove is larger than the bore, thus retaining the rod from extending all the way out of the bore.

How easy is it to get the clip back into the original groove when you put the cylinder back together?

Just a question from a guy that never rebuilt a cylinder, and probably never will...

Not hard. I just finished up installing the seals. I used 123 bearing in France. They shipped in 3 days. As far as the seal glands I just carefully bent them into place(didn't have a seal fork). Lubed the seals with grease and installed the cylinder rod. Then the snap ring involved snapping one end first, then rotating to the other end to snap. Then one big push to the center to get the snap ring seated in the high groove. Overall the seals were $37 shipped with $25 being shipping. So a success compared to $275 new.

what information do you need to provide to the vendor to get the right seal kit?

You need the rod diameter, gland diameter, and gland thickness. You also need to know if its a pressure lip seal, or dust shield. My pressure seal-dust seal were the same dimensions on this cylinder. Mine were all metric too.

Wow, great info!

Here is a great source for seals online, but the choices are a bit overwhelming.

Many choices in seal design, but cleaning out the old one give’s insight into the oem design. Most of these tractor seals are of simple construction. A good source will have the cross view, and temp/pressure constraints.

Keep in mind the old ones can be a little compressed compared to advertised seal dimensions.

My is g2160 as well. Do you have the parts number from 123bearing? I want to order the kit before I get it removed from the tractor. Order number would be fine, as 123bearing lady said that she can pull it up that parts number. Thanks.
