I have a leaking hose on my 525 loader. Called around the 3 nearest shops that "repair hydraulic hoses" and was I shocked. All wanted north of $120. I ordered it from Messicks for $64.40 which includes shipping. I thought the pricing would be reversed

I am not surprised - my local Parker store is insanely expensive if you are a walk in customer.

The Messicks price is still high. I dont think there is a hose on an LA525 loader that costs more than $25 to make and most are about $15.

Just went down this rabbit hole for a 36" 1/4 with female ends on my LP grapple. fwiw I caused it by knocking the 90' orientation and inadvertently rubbing through while working.

Tried pricing @the purchasing K dealer (wanted to upcharge me & shipping to pick it up there:mad:); TSC (only male ends & had to adapt) and local hyd. repair (ridiculous min per fitting)

Messicks to the rescue even w/ shipping (I live an hour away)

An hour in the right direction could put you close to me.

I just went through a similar situation when adding my rear remotes. That day, I needed a 15" 3/8" hose with -6 JIC ends. I went to the local TIPCO, which we use at work for tractor hoses, knowing they are high, but I was in a pinch. $65 later, the sales rep was like, "I gave you a discount since it's for you." I'll have my supply rep get me everything for the future. We have a crimp machine I can use at work, I just need to stock myself up on the fittings and hose.

I've used Trausch Dynamics to make hoses for me before.

Spee-Dee delivery is an option for those who live in the upper Midwest.

Using this as an example-

Yeah, I could have ordered the hose on eBay, Amazon, etc for about the same 23-28 bucks but I needed the machine that afternoon and wasn't going to undo all the hose routing to take the remotes out of the loop to save $30. I really don't like the local shop, even for our work hoses, they get ridiculously expensive real quick.

Most all NAPA stores and many other good automotive parts stores make hydraulic hoses. Truck parts and truck body places make hoses. They all tend to be cheaper than the strictly hydraulic repair shops.

Surplus Center wants $9.70 for an 18" OTS NRP Jones R16 hose assembly. It costs me more than that to make one. Before I started making my own hoses I bought and stocked them in assorted lengths.

It's been a while since I needed a hose but I have a Carquest in a neighboring county that only uses Gates brand hose and fittings. So far on my New Holland backhoe they are a third of the NH price and I have it in a day. Unlike another company I use to use none of the Gates hoses have failed.

I am lucky and Surplus center is only a fifteen minute drive for me, but I do keep a fair amount of hoses and fittings on hand. I have never had any issues with surplus center hoses or fittings. Weekends and holidays around my area can be a problem if you need a hose made. Parker is the closest hose store to me but even with the good guy discount they are high but sometimes you have to use them.

if I lived that close I would have a reserved spot in the parking lot 😛

The only downside to SC for me is the cost of shipping and I see they have now added a lower cost USPS option.

I miss the pre COVID days at surplus when they had a full blown show room and all the hyd fitting were out to look at. Normally I would stopped in to get one or two item and leave with many. Now its shop on line and pickup at the store threw a little window. The show room is gone for good. They are like everyone else and can't find help. I have done a ton of business with them over the years. The first new chain saw I bought was from then when they were a Stihl dealer back in the 80's.

This…

I was surprised that they had an incredible amount of Kubota fittings and was way cheaper than ordering. We are up in the mountains and they said they do a lot of hyd hoses for logging companies and epuipment. Not sure if in urban areas would be the same.
