Its more than just sealant. JIC fittings are easier to assemble, create a more reliable high pressure seal, and are more suitable for assembly/disassembly during the course of maintenance.Dan
I believe you are correct. They look like the picture you attached. I agree it would be superior without the sealant.
How does one go about determining the size of a JIC fitting?
JIC flare fittings are identified by the "dash number" that corresponds to the OD of the tube
Measure the OD of the male thread to determine the corresponding tube (aka dash) size. Here are the dash sizes you are likely to encounter on this type of equipment.
-06 = 3/8" tube = 9/16-18 thread
-08 = 1/2" tube = 3/4-16 thread
-10 = 5/8" tube = 7/8-14 thread.
-12 = 3/4" tube = 1-1/16 -12 thread
The hose in your picture has a female JIC swivel on one end. Can't tell what type of swivel is on the other end. May not be JIC.
