Hydraulic Cylinders and useless O-rings

The o-rings on the hydraulic cylinders on my front end loader have had me puzzled from day 1.

They are not sealing any thing. This is true of all cylinders on my FEL and 4 in 1 bucket.

Can anyone tell me if your tractor has a similar issue, and if this should be of concern...

There are from them painting the cylinders, it's an easy way to keep the paint off the wiper seals.
Feel free to cut them off!

Well, damn. That seems more plausible than anything I've been able to come up with.

Thank you for the insight. Looking at these for years, and within 5 minutes of asking the question here, got the answer.

5 minutes? I’ve seen Wolfman answer questions BEFORE they were asked. I enjoy reading his responses on issues even when I don’t understand the issue - or the answer. The man is a wealth of knowledge.
