Hydraulic cylinder assembly crack

Hi everyone,

I’m new to the forum. I recently just purchased a 2004 Kubota B7800 with 926 hours on it. The tractor runs great but does have some wear being 14 years old.

My main concern with the tractor are these two cracks in the hydraulic cylinder assembly. I’ve been chasing little leaks here and there and I wonder if this is where one of the leaks is coming from. Has a anyone ever had to replace this unit and if so what’s involved? The part is over a $1000 for a new.

Attached are a couple pictures I managed to take.

Thanks for the help

You'll need to post better pics as I can't see any cracks.

I could have sworn that was the name of the part that is listed in the diagram. Unfortunately I think I have discovered another crack in the transmission. This may not have been a good deal after all. Attached are some new pictures.

Much better pictures, thanks.

That is a sad sight, this machine was obviously abused in some way. I wonder if a 3PH back was used on it?

Now that I see the big pics, what you called the 'hydraulic cylinder assembly" is correct, that housing has the rockshaft or 3PH (three point hitch) cylinder inside of it.

Sorry I have no better advise, but I assume you have no recourse with the seller? Private party sale? I'd be on the phone myself, or knocking on a door...

Looking at your 2nd set of pictures I'm not seeing leaks.

It might be helpful to identify where the cracks are: HST housing, clutch housing, transmission housing, etc.

Some of these may be of no consequence, some could be fixed on the tractor, at this point hard to tell without being there.

Yep that is a sad sight indeed.
That model is a little on the weak in the middle and backside as far as structure goes, for the amount of HP that it produces. :(
But that looks like someone abused it!

Yea you could use JB weld on the surface cracks, but I don't think it will do you a lot of good or will hold.

You could pull it all apart and have the cracks tig welded, but I bet by the time you add it all up your probably not much better off than just buying new cases.

Yeah it's looking like its going to be a costly fix. The guy I bought it from did have a backhoe on it that he sold separately. I was thinking JB weld on the transmission case for the hairline crack. Maybe it will work for that at least.

The crack with the arrow is located on the right side of the transmission and is the section just under the top of the trans if that helps. It almost looks like the crack runs right to where the seal is.It's definitely leaking from this crack as the transmission stays wet in that area and drips down onto the filter. The other parts that are cracked/missing looks like its part of the hydraulic cylinder assembly. I'm not sure that it's leaking from there yet but I'm assuming it might start too. Everything is dry in this picture because I recently used engine cleaner to find out where it was leaking.

I think that I would hold up on the JB Weld for now. Maybe mark the ends of the crack to see if it spreads. You would need to get it real clean for JB Weld and a stable area. You might need to mechanically patch it to accommodate movement.

Looking at the long jagged crack at the transmission case. Would tend to replace that case, it is leaking then, and take a lot of time to cold stitch to repair it.

How hard is it to work on these tractors in terms of tearing it down? It looks like the case is about $300 and the assembly cylinder is $1000.00. I can only imagine what a dealer would charge to work on it.

They are easy to work on, no special tool required. ;)

Get the WSM before you start.
