Good day,
I have a used MX5000 with a LA852-2 using a husco 9210 spool valve. The detent was not working, when cold the boom would not lower until warmed up. *(It was full of water and the balls/spring were sitting in the bottom cover) I noticed that in between float and down pressure, there was a spot that wasn't "normal", it had a jitter. I replaced the detent with the Kubota part #75536-65400. The detent works good, and the jitter in between float and lowering with power is gone. now the issue seems to be on the boom raise, pulling back on the stick about from neutral position to 3/4 position of the boom stick it works 100%, as soon as i go beyond 3/4 to full the boom stops raising and I can hear strain on pump. What did I do wrong? What should I be doing?

Fez... I have some old threads regarding the 9210 Husco Monoblock Valve. I think you'll find them very helpful. Good luck and may the force be with you!

Thanks Butch, Yes, I did see them and was hoping for a different answer.
I think the best solution for me is a better quality valve.
Thank you for the explanation in your post, it was very helpful.

Better quality? HUSCO is a quality name and a respected supplier to many OEMs.

Perhaps you mean a new valve without the aging and deterioration thats causing problems with your current one?

Thanks Dan!
I've already thrown $300 CAD at this one, for detent kit and seals spacers etc on the other end of the spool. The Husco 9210 has its known issues with water leaking into the detent. It would be silly now to send it to a machine shop to true the spool, when I can get a Summit Valve for about $600 CAD? Unless I am missing something? I don't know the history of this machine, and whats been "touched". Really appreciate the feed back! Great forum!

Yikes!!! $600 is a lot for a Summit valve.

I dont doubt your valve has problems but keep this in mind when considering replacements:

The Husco 9210 is a serial monoblock valve with a regenerative circuit on the bucket spool. You are not going to get anything equivalent without spending big bucks. Commodity monoblock valves are going to be purely parallel and very few will have a regenerative bucket spool.

That may not be an issue for you but keep it in mind when evaluating the need to replace what you have. Your current problem seems to be pretty minor and I am not clear on why you think the spool needs to be reworked.

Very good point! Do I invest the $600+ into the current valve and hope it works?
I can't find any answers besides the explanation that Butch made way back 15 years ago about the spool being off tolerances.

I would like to keep it OEM.
What other options are out there?

Thank you!

Your current problem seems to be excessive travel in the boom spool. I dont see how a bent spool could cause that. That sounds like a problem in one of the end mechanisms.

Possible alternatives:

  • New parallel valve with regenerative dump from deaker @ $1060 USD
  • Brand parallel loader valve with regenerative dump @ $400 USD
  • Summit parallel valve without regenerative dump @ $275 USD
  • Custom order Brand serial valve with regenerative dump @ $???? but probably as much as the OEM valve.
  • Prince SV sectional with serial boom, no regen, and joystick handle - way more than OEM
I am sure there are more options but if I were you I think I would be looking hard at finding the travel problem with my current valve before ditching it.

Your reply about excessive travel was my initial thought, but couldn't seem to find any answers to support it. I will take another deep dive into it and check it over again. Is there any manuals out there for the LA852 / Husco 9210 setup with tolerances? I have downloaded the parts book, but it is limited with information.
Your feedback is gold, and I hope this helps out others with this same common problem.

I font think you need any tolernces.

IF the problem is over travel it should be pretty easy to find and remedy. Something mechanical in the valve prevents the spool from being pulled out the front. Identify that and the fix may be as simple as adding some shims or a washer.

Looking at the component parts diagram I would guess travel is limited by the fully compressed length of the centering spring.

Another thought just occurred to me. The joystick linkage may need to be adjusted to reduce spool travel in the raise direction.....

I have tried adjusting the joystick linkage, but it didn't help! The joystick does have a little bit of play, but nothing near slopped out. I am going to pull it off this afternoon and take another look. Thank you for your help!

Two additional thoughts:

  1. There us no rule that says you have to pull the spool all the way back.
  2. If you curl or dump the bucket at the same time as raising the boom the boom will stall and deadhead when the bucket cylinder reaches end of travel. If you center the bucket spool the boom will resume travel.

Good day Dan,
Thank you for your knowledge, I have resolved the issue and you were bang on with your advice.

There is missing information on the Spool Valve Component Parts view.
The washer that goes on detent shaft that is missing from the Component view.

Thanks again,
Great Forum!
