New member here and first post. I just picked up a "used" B2601 with a FEL, quick coupler, forks, and 72" rear blade for $16,500. The machine only has 4 hours on it and still has the sticker on the bucket. Purchased through an estate sale. I didn't even bother trying to haggle as I saw it as a good deal. Can't wait to play!

By no means NOT raining on anyone's parade.

We have a local auctioneer who is downright unscrupulous.

Reading fine print from any sale he administrates, item may be from other sources. Not claiming the same in this case.

This fellow allows consignments from any source, even equipment dealers.

He holds an annual municipal equipment auction. The billing is that ALL equipment offered is municipal owned and maintained.

NOT So. He bids items back into the sale because he will guarantee seller a bottom line price. He pays the seller then just trucks and incorporates the item into the next sale as if it originated there!!!!.

An estate sale is an ideal spot for a dealer to disguise a low hr machine to sell.

This auctioneer makes many folks in this area suspicious in nature.

Always a sound practice to trace the origin of the machine serial # to verify original purchaser.

Major, I thought the procedure you describe was standard practice for 95% of all auctioneers. They have their stooges in the crowd they can dump an item on at any given time to make it look like someone actually bid and bought!!


They're the same folks the auctioneer looks at and makes the crowd think they bid, just so they can raise the price they are calling out.

Auctioneering is often a tool used to deceive the innocent buyer. Probably where the term "buyer beware" originated!

My biggest fear is that if something ever happened to me, my wife would let some people come into my shop and make offers on machines, tools, guns and such. I've already told her if I ever die, she's to hire two companies. One to appraise the value of everything with ZERO ability to make offers or buy any of it and a second, independent company to help her sell or auction it all off.

Case in point: About 8 years ago I responded to a criagslist ad for a 10" swing Logan 820 lathe. $750 with the gearbox in good shape so I was sold. I showed up and the little old lady at the door said it was her dead husbands and she just wanted it gone as she was selling the house. I packed it up and as I was leaving she came running out and told me I forgot all the "stuff" that went with the lathe.

She then proceeded to walk me to a room 100% chock full of lathe chucks, morse tapered bits of every imaginable size, starrett gauges, taper attachments, steady rests....etc etc. I told her it was all worth a lot but she didnt want to even think about looking at it or parting it out.

I have since sold ONLY the duplicate attachments and extras for about $5,000....the accessories she gave me for free were worth at least 5X the value of the lathe. If only her husband had just told her.

I envision turning over in my grave watching her sell my Les Baer Monolith for a few hundred bucks to some gun collector.

This is the fear of every man with a large collection of tools or firearms haha! Perhaps I need to start a campaign with my wife telling her how much value all my stuff has appreciated since I paid all those super low costs years ago.
