Some companies are better to work for then others.

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2015/12/12/hilcorp-energy-gives-100000-bonus-to-all-1381-employees/

You ask, what makes them different?

From their 'vision/mission/values' webpage:

Our Core Values:
Integrity – “Do the Right Thing”
Urgency – “Act Today, Not Tomorrow”
Ownership – “Work Like You Own the Company”
Alignment – “When Hilcorp Wins, We All Win”
Innovation – “Get Better Every Day”

No more bonus since the buy out two years ago. They do cash out any unused sick time instead. Well they made it so you get a bad review if you work ot to cover a doctors appointment instead of using the sick time. So your damned if you do or don't

My 3 year old granddaughter has said several times lately, papa, I love you. What could be a better bonus than that?

I only got a real bonus once in my life. It was massive. But then, the bonus was part of then pay package. Salary was typically only about 1/3 of what a good worker would earn. There were a few guys whose bonus was 10X their salary.
Every company since, it seemed the day I started that the following day the bonus program was canceled.
My wife gets one every year, about 20%
I have been self employed the last 12 years. Every day is a bonus.

I'm retired now but when I was working to make ends meet I worked for our local power company as a journeyman lineman (37 years) witch entailed many many hours of overtime. Our bonus came in March if the company met there yearly goals it was a percentage of our base pay my and the bonuses were very nice normally between $8500 to $10000 . Now that I'm retired my wife gets up cooks breakfast and sends me out the door to complete my daily chores and she's there come dinner time that's about as good as it gets my wife , kids , grandkids and a fine hunting rifle is the best bonus a man could ask for.
