I may attempt to remove the LA681 from my L3710 for the first time as I consider similar repairs.
With the rear pin removed, the back should rock up and off of the lower support.
With the front pin removed, the front should rock down and off of the lower support.
It looks pretty straightforward, though remounting could be tedious...
The top bar could be removed to avoid any chance of denting the hood as others have reported.The steering cylinder on my L3710 has been leaking for years, and I found this thread while preparing to tackle the job myself, but I'm admittedly discouraged by your experience.
