How to find a phone number?

I remember there used to be a way on line to search for a person's phone number by name for free.

Seems like now you have to pay. Is there not something on line that is equivalent to the phone books of days gone?

Used to be a few years ago I remember...can not find it now...

Thanks, I think that may be the one I was remembering. But when I tried it I got the voice mail of some woman, and left a message.

Then I tried myself, and it did turn up a number that was valid years ago, when we had a separate line for a fax, but that number was cancelled probably ten or fifteen years ago...more like fifteen.

Not sure what that number is, but at least it is not a 900 number I suppose...

900 numbers are the ones they use to rip callers off, right?

PS...what area code was that? Maybe it WAS a 900 number!

I called an 888 number for the tech support line for one of my equipment manufacturers. Fat fingers got me 1 digit off. I got a porn line instead

After promptly hanging up, I redial the tech support line verifying the numbers before hitting send. Got the tech support person I was looking for that round. We had a good laugh when I mentioned my mistake. Apparently I wasn't the first person to get the porn site.

Useful free sites in this category are a lot harder to find than they used to be and they’ll only give you listed phone lines. For that, I’ve found https://www.usphonebook.com/ to work most of the time.

If you want unlisted or cell numbers you’ll be paying. If I’m wrong about that I’d love for someone to point me to a free resource for cell and unlisted. So many people have cut the cord, if you ain’t paying you ain’t finding many individuals under about 40.

White Pages, etc. will only find land line phone numbers. There is no lookup that I am aware of that will find cell numbers.

The problem nowadays is that more and more people are going to only having a cell phone so you can’t find their phone number if you are looking for someone. It is kind of a pain to know who you want to call, but not be able to because you don’t have their number.

You can use sites such as Spokeo, Intellius, etc. or even the pay to play part of White Pages or US Phone Book, and get most cell numbers and unlisted numbers (and enough other stuff that it’s kind of disconcerting). Downside is you’ll pay for it.

spydialer.com will find cell phone numbers and give the name. I just tested it to make sure and it found 3 in a row.
