Hi,

Picking up a used BH92 backhoe for an l6060. This is off the auction block so there is no info on how long it's been sitting. I'd like to flush the hydro system before connecting it to the tractor just to be safe.

What is the best way to do this?

Thanks all!

It will be a messy pricey flush.

Connect the supply to the tractor and put the return in a bucket, start the tractor and run for 15 seconds. Then turn off. You just flushed the main lines and valve. Check and top up hydraulic fluid.

Next pull the boom control back and hold. Start tractor and run long enough to fully extend the boom cylinder then turn tractor off. Lower boom to ground. You just flushed boom circuit. Restart tractor and run just long enough raise the boom again. Leave boom raised, check and top off hydraulic oil.

ŵith boomnup repeat in turn with dipper stick, bucket, and both outriggers.

Those are sealed quick connects. It wont have contamination other than what is in the connectors. Spray them with wd40 and brake clean will remove the sand/mud. If your worried about the wrong type of fluid having been in the system, then just crack the lower line of all the cylinders loose, and let it drain. Any more than this is pretty overkill.

Except there’s no telling what oil might be in there to begin with since it’s coming from an auction. Could be automatic transmission fluid or who knows what cheap oil from tractor supply? I guess automatic transmission fluid might be red in color I don’t know. My guess is the OP doesn’t want to take the chance of mixing an unknown fluid with what is in his tractor.

His tractor holds 12 gal of hyd fluid. If he drains the cylinders, how much of a suspect wrong fluid would be left? Few quarts, and Id think that would be generous. Hopefully the OP knows what Atf fluid looks and smells like.

Any worse than a suspect cheap hyd fluid having been introduced, you got bigger issues...
