How should 3-point/draft control work on my L295Dt?

Sorry for the “first timer” question. My L295DT has 2 levers on right to control the 3-point. I have a bush hog attached.
The inside one raises/lowers, but it kinda seems like it’s all -or-nothing.depending on how far you pull the lever, it just slowly/quickly keeps raising or lowering till it’s the whole way up (and pump whining) or whole way down.

The outside lever doesn’t seem to do anything?

So I’ve been lifting it up, “locking” the knob (betweeen my legs), disengaging the lift, then adjusting height and locking with the lock knob to height to mow.

what am I doing wrong? Or is something broken?

Thanks. Can you explain further? How is this supposed to work? How can I diagnose/fix? Is way I’m using it OK?

There are many descriptions of how to adjust the feedback rod so I suggest you search for that and read several threads to get a good general understanding of how it works.

The basic operation is you set the height using the lever adjusting a valve, and the feedback rod then returns that valve to an off position when that height is reached. If the arms move down the feedback rod will then tell the valve to open and move them back up.

The squeal is the result of the arms going too high and hitting a solid stop and wanting to continue to raise higher. The pressure relief valve opens to release the excess pressure and then starts to close and open (quickly). That is the squeal.

Remove the implement.

Loosen the nut on the rod closest to the end and then raise the arms to get the squeal. Lengthen the rod by extending the inner nut until the squeal stops. Then turn the nut another full turn and a half. Lock in place using the outer nut. Test it a few times and lock it in place well.

The implement may be too heavy and can cause the squealing also when you try to pick it completely off the ground.

Locking it from moving down while mowing is fine but don’t raise the implement off the ground and drive across bumpy fields or you might split a case in the tractor’s hydraulic system.

Read about check chains to hold the mower in position if you care to use chain instead of the hydraulic system

Draft and position control are two different and incompatible functions.

You seem to want position control. To use it you have to put the draft control lever in the disabled position and then use the position control lever to set the height. If you dont disable draft mode the position mode will not work correctly. Have you read and understood the description of the two levers in the owners manual? Sounds like you have not.

The OPs subject line is 3pt/draft control.
The OP identified the two clearly labeled control levers used on those tractors.
I see no reason to doubt him.
