How often i check fluids - - don't lie!

We see it all the time....I have a problem, checked the fluid level, and it was low....how can I fix my problem???

It's often hydraulic related, but sometimes engine, too.

How often do you check fluids?

I'm not smart enough to make one of those survey things, but here's mine:

Engine oil: Every time I run it, or once per week if running multiple times per week for snow blowing.

Hydraulic/HST: Every other week, or about every 4 times I work tractor. Works out to ~10 hours between checks.

Coolant: Once per month.

You may be able to add it, or delete thread and start another thread with POLL selected from the thread options further down the page, just change the poll number of answers and add something like , How often on AVERAGE, do you check the following - engine oil, daily or when I run it, weekly, monthly, same for hydraulic/transmission, and you could do the same for coolant. While I think checking coolant would be at the same time as engine oil, sometimes it's forgotten altogether by some. You could also add yearly to hydraulic yearly I guess or posters could just add if they only check something yearly.

I check engine oil and coolant every time. Transmission, well.,,......... once a year when I change the engine oil and fuel filers I do visually check for transmission leaks on the inside of the tires and underneath the tractor before starting it

About once per month on equipment that I know need no more frequent inspections.

The front axle of one of my tractors leaks. I've monitored the drip and found even with the "spotting", Once per month (based on normal use) is often enough.

I;m no stickler for keeping fluids "eggs- actly| on the full mark. They put a high low band on the dip stick for a reason! ;-)

I try to do a pre op inspection every time I use mine. It's easier to address any issue at home than it is to be a hr away in the middle of nowhere then find a problem. A 5 minute walk around is time well spent.

I am a stickler on many things but must admit I do a poor job checking fluids.

This post has caused me to rethink......

Sundays after church we usually take it easy and try not to plan much to have some downtime before the week gets started. Perfect time to take 10 minutes and check fluids in our vehicles and equipment.

So Sunday i will check all fluids and after reading a few posts think I will change hydraulic fluid in my L4600DT, just rolled over 251 hours Saturday disking food plots. I bought it used so I have no idea if the filter was changed at 50 hours or the fluid.

Going to use Kubota UDT since mine is a gear drive and use UDT in the front end.

Thanks for the post and moving forward it only makes sense to keep an eye on the fluids, heck I wash it nearly every week which takes longer than checking fluids........and much less important!

I look under the tractor. If it leaks I check it. None of mine leak, so I maybe check once a month.

I check my airplane before every flight, but that's a little more critical.

I check once a month maybe. I don't check the fluids in my cars or truck every time I use them so not gonna do it with the tractor, either.

I check mine before I take it up to my property. Unless I see a leak while there (mostly 1-2 day trips) I usually don't check it again until I am ready to take it back out there. Eventually it will reside there then I will just check them before each use.

Same here. Trained that way as a Operating Engineer. Do you want to tell someone you just ruined a earthmover because you did not check the oil. You will set at home a long time to reflect on it.

It honestly takes less than 30 seconds to check all the fluids in my mx5100, so I check it every time I use it.

Once when I buy it, then usually once a quarter, unless I see a puddle of something on the ground or a strange sound from the engine or trans. I'll admit I'm not the best at it.

I check mine after every days work, and cast an eye round the machine to make sure all is well.
the tractor is new to me, so I'm just making sure things are as they should be, give it time and I will most likely check every 10 hours on the clock, or after working it hard, such as rotavating or using the wood chipper.

Usually before I'm gonna be running it pretty hard. Like plowing with 7' offset disc or pulling the Batwing. No set schedule.

I'll admit it, I never check any fluids but I'm always checking for leaks or odd noises. I also follow all maintenance schedules to a "T". The only things I check before use is my boat and my snowmobiles because a failure on either one could be fatal.
