Almost as bad as a chunk of hot rust getting picked off my eyeball with a syringe. Good times.
Been there, done that; well pretty close anyway. HOT SS chip from a machining process bounced off my cheek bone right under the safety glasses, banked off the cheek to hit the inside of the glasses, and ricocheted from the lens into my eye, where it cooked & sizzled it's way onto the surface of the eyeball. Did not feel good, but it was worse when they had to (literally) pry it out with a needle & micro tweezers.

I was young I thought 6$ an hour in the late 70s and early 80s was a lot of money :)
It was. What a great technique to learn by.
