No beef issue for us, but delayed.

Just heard from our supplier that local slaughterhouses are backed up big time. Emphasis on the local processors.

We’re looking at mid-June for our quarter. No sweat, we’ll make due...

Just guessing the astronomical prices that guy saw were a result of (1) panic buying, and (2) animals you can easily process at home without special tools, etc.

I could dress a rabbit in <60 seconds as a kid.

Picked up 80 lb of chicken (40lb legs qtr and 40lb tenders) $64 from local factory

Didn't want that much, but good deal and others didn't want to split. Still have plenty of beef for now

Cluck cluck.....40# case bone-in thighs $39.50 from a local Amish grocery.

Packer is from Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina.

Got a 40# case of boneless chicken breasts while back from same place.

I haven’t heard from my beef grower in a while, except backed up to mid-June at the small local processor.

He’s a very small operation, and think he only ships 2-5 head at a time.

He normally finishes his cattle February-March, since he brings them inside anyway for our winters.

I’m no expert with finishing beef....what do you think he’s doing with the steers over the 2+ month delay?

His Dad provided great beef, and the son is maybe better. Thinking he learned well, and we’ve known the family for 30+ years.

This pandemic has caused everything to back up.

Just curious what the OTT beef producers take might be on how to handle something like this.

We do get Hamburg from a local farm. The farmer keeps the best cuts for his family. He raises and sells three cows a year. All spoken for. Mostly sells 1/2 cows all butchered and packaged. He has his own coolers, freezers and butcher shop at the farm. He cuts and vacume seals my deer also.
My daughter and girlfriend both love beef. Myself well. I stopped eating beef in 1990. UnAmerican I know. But after watching a program about red meat and cholesterol I thought I'd try stop eating beef and 20 years later I still stick to chicken turkey and fish. Two or three times a year I'll have a Wendy's chile. So that's my beef intake for the year. Odd I know. I eat enough other crap to make up for not eating beef i'm sure. My family doctor says he buys 'organic' beef. Its healthy.
There has been meat shortages at the local and bigger supermarkets and beef prices especially here are through the roof.

Our beef came yesterday. I asked the farmer how he handled the long delay at the processor. Said he just left the animals set for shipping in the barn and kept feeding.
He said he might add a few head as he had more calls than he had animals to ship.
We had a cool spring, snow on Mother’s Day....just 41 degrees this morning...so it wasn’t a big deal to keep them in.

Couple Porterhouses on today’s menu.

So far we are OK. We have always bought several steaks and vacuum sealed all that go into the home freezer.
