Hot enough? Smoky enough?

Daytime temps started rising to the hot side (-30C/86F) up here along the "cooler" shores of L. Superior last Saturday. Set a new +30year record yesterday (36C/+98F) at the house. Not much cooler down the hill at Lake level. Just a trace of a breeze. At least it was dry (RH 30s). There is a buoy located ~30miles NE of Outer Is. More or less in the center of western L. Superior. Surface water temp is still 39F. But with only offshore light breeze we get minimal Lake Effect cooling. At least the night temps drop to the 60sF. Winds veering from SW to NW tonight......

Last night awoke to the smell of smoke. Not the woods or the house. Just the leading edge of either the Minnesota fires or the Ontario fires or both. By mid day the AQI hit a new record high. First time experiencing AQIs into the Hazardous range. At least it stayed cooler.

3rd Summer in a row we have experienced bad air quality. I guess the new normal. No fun wearing a N95 during the summer. Could be worse. Like living in the regions on fire.

Same. Just summer heat and the smoke is well north. Went up to NW OH to watch the BigBoy rolling West back through. Hot and humid but a beautiful day. Cool on the drive up in the low 70’s. Didn’t need the AC going up but after an hour in the sun, needed it coming back. I think we hit 91 today.

Smokey with a red haze here today. Air quality stinks. Hardly made any solar power today with the darkness and soot on the panels.

Combo of days without rain, low RH, and excessive heat requires irrigating the veggie garden. Using an ancient 2gal Haws watering can and 3 gal stainless steel bucket to conserve the rain water captured in the rain barrels. Luckily it stayed below 90F yesterday. With the smoky air knocking down the radiant heat of the sun and low RH by watering time it did not feel that hot. Light onshore breeze kicked in that felt almost nice. Having to wear a N95 mask made for an unpleasant experience. NWS noted we hit all time recorded highs for AQI in this region. I think everyone for miles were over 799.

Pruned the winter hardy kiwi early this AM. 60's. Which is about as warm as I like wearing a N95. AQI is still "hazardous" at 500. Light onshore breeze from the east. Hopefully all day to keep the natural air con working.

Have an indoors HEPA portable air filtration unit. Old Kenmore. Forgot to replace the pre and HEPA filter after last years bad fire smoke conditions. Multiple events from the wildfire smoke out of Manitoba and other Canadian Provinces. Amazon still has sellers that stock the pre and HEPA filters. Just ordered. One of these days will run out of sources. Bit like my ancient(70's vintage) Hoover canister vacuum cleaner. Still works. If it had bags. Probably time to take it to the waste drop off center and add to the load of items that have become obsolete.

Bad here in the Hayward area too. I have to go to Superior in a short wile. Not looking forward to this trip like the others. Not stopping at Anchor Bar for one of their fabulous burgers this trip....

Atleast it doesn't smell like burning pigs anymore. Smoke is still bad here in central NY but smells like a woodstove today.
