Hi All. Just picked up a used BX5450 snowblower and notice a small hole in the bottom rear of the impeller housing. I'm hoping this is a designed weep hole to allow drainage and not corrosion. There is rust in the impeller housing but it does not seem severe or unusual for a used attachment. Any help appreciated.

Thanks.

Upload a picture if you can - it will help us see that hole. Based on what you said, seems to be a weep hole - might want to clean it up with some sandpaper and prime it and repaint it while it is put up for the "summer":)

Hi Hokie:

No idea how to upload an image from dropbox here. (So easy on Craig's List). To me the hole looks like a half circle, a bit smaller than half a dime, like maybe it's supposed to be there. But I'm hoping someone with the same unit will let me know if they have the same hole.

Thanks for the input. Hopefully we're right about that. And how could a couple of bright guys like us possibly be wrong? :D

This work?
Yup, weep hole. My BX2750D has a similar weep hole in the back/bottom. Only works if you store the blower tilted upwards a bit however...

This prevents water from freezing into a block of ice in the bottom, which would shear your fan shear bolt if there was a large ice buildup.
