High Idle creeping up.

Hi all,

Had a quick look through the forum and found similar issues but nothing that hit the nail on the head.

I have a Kubota V1505-T fitted into a Toro 6700D mower 2012.

Had an unfair start with this issue as I've taken it on from the guy who retired, this is what is happening.

On low idle the engine acts fine but when the throttle is opened up to max high idle the revs sit there for a few seconds and then will continue to rev higher past max rpm and stay there (waiting on a Tachometer for accurate reading)

when machine is in use and under load the revs with hover around max rpm and when the load is lifted or travelling down a hill (hydrostatic drive) the engine again revs way past the max rpm and to a point where it sounds like its running away, but can pull back on the throttle to govern it.

Adjusted Fuel limit adjust bolt and replaced governor spring but nothing changed bar loosing power when adjusting fuel limit bolt.

convinced it is a governor issue but any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.

Dan

Have you checked for air leaks? Like any cracked rubber hoses? Make sure the carb mounting nuts are secure. Did this just start happening or has it been running fine and suddenly the problem started?

I had an air leak on a Honda that I found by spraying WD40 around the carb mount gasket. As soon as I sprayed, the rpm’s changed. Replaced the gasket and solved the problem.

Thank you for the reply, It is a diesel and visually checked the pipes but shall use the wd40 check when im back in.

We have a 5410 reelmaster acting the same way. Did you get the issue fixed? Would be grateful to know what was causing this. Thanks, Tim

The governors are pretty fail safe.
Aside from a broke spring, I don't see anything else failing.

I would be checking for failing injectors.
Especially if there is any black smoke involved.

I’ve noticed quite a few videos of V1505 engines on YouTube with governor issues. I think this is what is wrong with our fairway mower. Unlike different pieces of equipment that this engine is in, this mower operates at 3200 RPM and will go full tilt for a few minutes, then when finishing a strip, slowly down, lifting the reels and all loads off. It’s got 5200 hours of hard work on it

When you take the loads off the engine it revs in the 3400 - 3500 rpm range. Just throttle it back it calms down. Under load it runs great. If you tach it in the shop it just creeps up on the rpms as well. Seems fine one time and revs up the next
